2006 4Runner updates?

O.k., it is June and about time for some leaks from Toyota on the '06 4Runner updates. Some of you are in the know or are great at starting rumors. We all know the things we'd liked fixed/changed and I'm wondering if Toyota has began to listen!

Thanks,

Don't be nervous.....there shouldn't be much (if anything) changing on the 06, and there's no noteworthy problems with the 05 (or 03/04) that would require any attention anyways. Enjoy the purchase!

I have friends that are always waiting for that next model year.....they've been buying a new car since 98 but are still driving around some old Marquis :bash:

ya know, i always seem to luck out when buying cars...i always seem to buy the year that they upgrade things from the first few years of production.

I dont see how they could upgrade/update much since they upped the power in 05 on the v8, if they were going to do something more than that, that would have been the time.

Thanks for the confidence. I have waited for a while for the 4runner to have XM factory installed. I finally gave up and took the plunge..

I've heard about some great updates!!! But they're top secret, so I can't tell you...

(I'm waiting for the 2006 ;): )

It sure would be nice if the Toyota Corporation sent the (5 speed) tranny for my 2004 Runner that I was cheated out of.

Man, I am still pissed about having a 4 spd tranny when Toyota should have installed the 5 spd tranny with this V-6 engine from the onset. Before getting in my ride, I think........I have a 4th generation vehicle with a 3rd gen tranny! Hmmm, would the latter be grounds for a "Lemon"!

Ooops! Sorry, I know Toyota rarely drops a lemon!

Hey Mr. Toyota CEO......... I WANT my 5 spd TRANNY!!!!

I dunno about that.....but like I said, you can play the "waiting for next year" game....every year ;):

Some people don't want a vehicle in it's first year or 2 of production cause they're scared of teething problems.....then don't want the 3rd or 4rth year cause they're scared updates will be made in the 4rth or 5th year.....then by the 5th/6th year they'll tell you "might as well wait for the re-style" and the cycle starts all over again!!

I'm sure there are plently of people out there that have been buying a 4rth gen since 2002......

I don't know for sure, but I have a feeling that the changes on the 2006 4Runner will not be anything big. It will sort of be like the 2004 4Runner's where they received a few cosmetic changes (SR5 and Sport) and a few new electronic features (back up camera and tpms). I hope that Toyota will upgrade the 4Runner's nav with bluetooth and voice command for 2006. In addition, maybe a few new exterior (bring back the green;): ) and interior colors but that is all I can think of. There is not much more you can do to improve an amazing vehicle!

The official date of release 2006 4Runner is July 17. (info from Japan). What's new: 17mm larger fenders (same tire size), LED tail lights, projector type low beam (no HID!!!, Toyota says 4Runner doesn't need HID, it's mostly off-road vehicle)

Thanks for the update! Agree, there is nothing staggering for the new model year (if this is all of the changes). If you hear anything else (colors, options, trim updates), your audience awaits! :)

They need to offer a TRD package to include 2-3 additional inches of clearance and a rear locker. Their other models have this package as does the Z71 Chevy, Off Road Armada, etc.

And make the TRD package retrofit to the 03 model year. That way I can upgrade with OEM components.

What size fender do we have now? 17mm on a bigger fender with the same sized tire might look funny.

Any info on interior upgrades? Also, are the projector lights going to be identical to the ones on the GX470?

LED taillights? I hope they can easily be swapped with our model years, as I might have to pick up a pair for myself. :D

As far as I know, nothing going to be upgraded in interior.
Projector lights possibly the same as used on GX, size and shape of the light itself going to be the same. I've seen on this forum someone got aftermarket projector for 2nd or 3rd gen. I think it will look something like that. For more detail information we have to wait 1,5 month.

Prices on 2006 4Runners

Anybody got any information or "informed speculation" on price changes on the 2006 4Runners?:)

New Colors for 2006

I found an interesting PDF file on Toyota's fleet website:

http://fleet.toyota.com

Under the "Resources" menu, choose "2006 Model Color Chart."

To summarize the colors for the 2006 4Runner:

- Natural White
- Titanium Met
- Galactica Gray Mica
- Shadow Mica
- Black
- Salsa Red Pearl
- Driftwood Pearl
- Nautical Blue Met

Looks like the following are gone as of '06:
- Pacific Blue Met
- Dorado Gold Pearl
- Stratosphere Mica

Shadow Mica is currently available on the '05 Matrix (marked as carryover for that model).

Driftwood Pearl is available on the '05 Prius (also carryover for that model).

Nautical Blue is new to Toyota in '06 and it's tagged as a "Special Edition" color. Whether that means the color is "special" or that we will have a model designated as a "Special Edition" is unknown. I'm guessing the former. This blue is the replacement for Stratosphere, but it looks like it has some purple in it (could be poor color reproduction in the PDF file).

The PDF file also has CMYK values for each color, so you can try plugging them into your graphics program to get a rough idea of what each will look like.

Finally, interesting, though not 4R-related:

- there are two columns for the Camry, an '06 and an '07. Looks like we'll see the redesigned Camry in early to mid-2006 (or else why have it in the '06 fleet guide?)

- the Echo is being replaced (no surprise) with a yet-to-be-announced model. There are two columns for an "Echo Rep[placement]."

Amazing what can be found on public websites. This is exactly the reason why I no longer subscribe to the auto mags (C&D, MT, etc.) -- I can find the same info, months before it's published.
