2006+ DIY Ground Loop Isolator (Hidden)

I routinely have my phone plugged into my AUX port and charger at the same time. I got tired of having the humming noise from ground loop interference. I saw the in-line 3.5mm PAC Ground Loop Isolators (GLI) that some have used, but I did not want another chord tangling up my center console box. I did some research and made my own ground loop isolator that I installed under center console shift panel. Here is a PDF I put together for those who may want to install the same mod.

All you need is a pair of 600 Ohm audio transformers, a 5.6k Ohm resistor, a small printed circuit board, wire, solder and soldering iron. Alternatively, instead of making your own GLI, you could purchase PACs GLI and install it in the same location as my instructions.

After installing the GLI, the AUX detector switch inside the center console 3.5mm jack, no longer works. The detector works by dropping the voltage on the AUXO (blue) wire from 1.7V to 0.6V across a 5.6k Ohm resistor. The Head Unit detects this voltage drop and allows you to select the AUX option on your stereo. Therefore you must trick the Head Unit into thinking that a 3.5mm AUX cable is inserted, by grounding the AUXO (blue) to ground through a 5.6k Ohm resistor.

Unfortunately from what I wad reading, pre-2006 models do not have an AUX port. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

I had the same issue, and wanted a simple way to resolve it, and I ended up going with this: http://a.co/031vPzP and keeping it in the center console. The cable is short enough that it stays out of the way, and to keep it out of the way even further, I mounting-taped it to the side of the console box pointing up.

Maybe I'll give this a shot when I start keeping more stuff in the console.
