2006 JBL sub is blown... I have some questions about a replacement.

I've done some research already. I know the JBL sub is an 8 inch DVC at 2ohms per channel. What I don't understand is what will happen if I drop in an 8 inch sub that is a SVC @ 4 ohms or what will happen if I drop in an 8 inch sub with a DVC @ 2ohms (like the JBL factory sub) but what if it's like 150 RMS or 200 RMS... I know the JBL factory and can't push such a sub to it's greatest with the small factory amp, but would I have any problems? Wouldn't there still be some bass? This would be a temp setup and I don't want that pioneer or Rockford fostgate 8 inch subs... That are so popular with replacing the JBL sub.

Nothing aftermarket will be ideal because the stock amp doesn't put out much power. With that said, look for a lower end DVC sub with a lower power rating that way you drive it as close to it's rated power as possible.

I understand that the amp would be underpowering a sub that had 200 RMS and above, but audible bass would still be heard, I just couldn't crank it to hit hard and that's okay I think... I'm not looking to be loud... Just good SQ and lower volumes.

I replaced my blown sub with a Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 and it's a perfect fit (you just have to clock it slightly so the holes line up with the ones on the box). The wires on the old sub are connected to the back in the shape of a T. The bottom of the T is + and the top is -. Just clip the wires from the harness, solder or crimp connect them to the new one, and you're done. It takes longer to pull the rear panels than it does to change the sub out.

Though it doesn't hit hard (it is only 8" and underpowered), it's still way better than a blown JBL.

Threw a Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 in when my stock went out and its been great with the stock amp.
