Amazing job! I do simple mechanical work like change spark plugs, headlight projector retrofit, clean MAF, filters, take off the front/rear bumpers. I wish I had a buddy like you to learn more engine stuff, I would have loved to watch and learn from that project. You handled it like a boss. When my engine dies or whatever, I'm paying someone to fix it

Decided I needed to clean the Silver Beauty up a bit and get the 205k miles of grime out of it.
Stripping the seat covers to throw in the wash.
Clean Carpets going back in
Although the seats didn't really look dirty, I throw the covers in the wash, and was disgusted at the outcome.... That is just the Driver's seat covers in the washing machine.
My assistant helping to put the seat covers back on.
Right now, the passenger seat covers are in the dryer after their wash.

That’s awesome! In the first pic, is that black cover with the 3 screws, under the backseat area to access the fuel pump/sending unit? I’ve never had my interior apart so it would be cool to know if that could be accessed from above without dropping the tank.

The pump would not fit through the hole in the floor. That is just a pass-thru for the electrical connector and access to disconnect it before dropping the tank.

Technically you can just replace the valves, as long as no damage was done to the seats or guides. I went ahead and and replaced the damaged valves. Redid all the seats and valve faces, and all new seals.

I would think twice about that. I recieved several quotes from several shops (most shops flat out said that the 2UZ was too hard to work on and refused to give me a quote at all) The dealer gave me a quote of $12,890, an independent shop gave me a quote for $9,400 and the rest told me to get lost or buy a different truck. I ended up doing it myself and taking parts to the machine shop.

They're not that hard if you are familiar with how upholstery is built and are familiar with removing and reinstalling "Bull Rings"

Thank you. I am confident this thing will last another 200k. The cylinders didn't show a smidge of wear, and had full crosshatch with no ridge. I had the oil pan off to retrieve a dropped cam cap bolt, and all looked and felt well down there, too.

How did you clean the mating surface on the block? I have seen a lot of different ways to do it, but when I did my headgaskets I used a yellow roloc bristle disc. I saw some videos on youtube that said not to use it, but I didn't run into any problems.

Used Parts cleaner and a razor blade. Should never ever use an abrasive disc or pad block or head mating surfaces.
