Agreed - but I also got the rack for cheap and I wanted a durable mounting point for a light bar, which I do use all the time for cross country driving here in Colorado. Call the rack an expensive mounting setup with extra storage ability :lmao:

April 2014: With the gracious help of Wishbone :bravo::bravo::bravo:, we installed the RB 1 inch body lift, chopped the body mounts, and installed new 33.4 275/70/18 duratracs. Now the truck sits exactly at the height I've wanted, and I love it.









Overall impressions, the ride height is tall, new tires are quieter but a little firm (still running E's), gas mileage dropped 1.5 mpg upsizing tires. I had to further trim the front fender flairs and move the liners up even more, and trimmed some of the plastic in rear front fenders. They clear pretty good with the BMC.

The rear bumper is stretched 1/4 inch, but nothing terrible. I'll want to remove the rear hitch now since it droops a little too low for my liking. Of note, the radiator drop kit was a challenge to install, we had to add washers to the bracket bolts on all 4 corners for it to fit properly. No issues of yet.

Without doing the 1" BL, I'd definately say the body mount is required, as well as some other additional trimming of the fenders, nothing too major but it is required.

The gap between the sliders and body isn't bad, it actually makes the sliders more usable as a step than before. Visually, I liked it closer up as before, but its not bad after the BL.:hippie:

I haven't driven with it at night, but on initial fire up, yes, it was noticably brighter with a more concentrated pattern (even though it's still a combo lense) so I'm assuming it will be brighter.

On other news, I went offroading today for my first time on more technical stuff. Truck handles great but I definitely need some skids now.

What was your suspension and tire setup when this was taken? (post from 5-12-2013)

I'm starting to mod my T4R and I really LOVE the stance yours has in this pic. How was ride quality?

Stance: 275/65/18 Duratracs, Radflo 2.0's Front, Bilstein 5100 rears with Radflo springs (2inch lift). It's about a 3/2 lift.

You should be able to get this stance from numerious kits, either toytec, icon, radflo, etc.

You won't. A 3/2 lift is perfect...after 2 years of that I wanted more lift and bigger tires so I did the 1 inch body lift and 33's. Now I love it, even though the mpg dropped. Stick with 32's if you're mainly a highway/city driver.

Drove up to Medano Pass last weekend and had to deal with a mud pit. An FJ got stuck before me, pulled him out, got stuck again, and pulled him and another truck out. Then, I proceeded to drive through the obstacle with little effort. Proof it's not the vehicle but the driver that matters.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm putting on a Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit tomorrow so I'll at least have a nice transition into a bigger lift. I'm sure it'll grow on me really quickly though lol

You'll be happy with the Daystar, I ran that kit for 60,000 miles.

San Juan Explorations & FJ Summit

We just completed an exploration of a lifetime. Spent 5 days on the road and hit up destinations that have been on the list for a few years now. What a fun time and good sights.

From Lyons area ->Buena Vista to Crested Butte via Cottonwood Pass. CB to Gunnison via Ohio Pass, down CO149 to Lake City. Cinnamon Pass towards Animas Forks, California Gulch to California Pass to Hurricane Pass to Velocity Basin. Down the road to Silverton, Telluride via Black Bear Pass. Back east on Tomboy Road to Imogene Pass. Back down to Ouray, and onwards to Highway 50 over Monarch Pass.

We met a few groups with FJ Summit, and a handful of really nice rigs. It was fun seeing everyone out there.

Highlights - climbing Redcloud and Sunshine Peaks, accomplishing Black Bear Pass. Velocity Basin and Imogene Pass were both spectacular. 10/10 on all levels. This gem of an adventure should not be missed.

Well after a long road trip up to Wyoming and back, the gas mileage on the 4runner is getting pretty ridiculous for 1,500 mile road trips. I've always thought about a 2nd car, and decided to find something that would do well up here in the mountains.

Pretty rare car. 2007 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon with SI Drive. Really fun to drive.

Nice find! When I was shopping for my runner I was also looking for a clean, low milage, non abused wrx sti...they're just not real common cars around here so I wound up with the runner. The STI's are so fun though.

Yeah, the GT turbo is pretty fun, especially after a tune. I like the sportiness of it, however, the 4runner is so much more solid of a car. The second you touch the door handle of the Toyota you can just feel the quality is there. The Subaru feels more dainty.

Followed your build a little bit for a year or so now. I have an 08 V8 and finally got my lift put together and installed. Sway Away coilovers and rear FJ springs with OME spacers stacked on each side. Pretty close to level now.

You ever decide on a bumper or just decided it's not really needed?

Love following your build and your most recent adventure. Have some questions as am planning a trip in June to Breckenridge, followed by about a week and a half in the Rockies and Tetons. Would love a locals input in regards to places to go. Also ironically I too am searching for a daily driver as we are trying to keep the mileage off of our vacation rig. Am looking for a Subaru as it is what my wife has, and I used to have, and the AWD is amazing. I really miss a manual, but now I'm debating if I should just get another automatic as they are usually less abused. How are you liking the new Subie? Also that Lexus rig is on facebook, just follow there site at Adventure Driven. Awesome set up and great pictures of everything they do with it.

June might be tough exploring all the trails Colorado has to offer due to all the snow the Rockies get. I would highly recommend SW Colorado, San Juans. Check out Engineer Pass, Imogene Pass...that is if they are open. Otherwise wait until July to come out. It really is the most beautiful part of the country.

I like the Subaru. It's super nimble in the snow, and fun to drive. Only issue I'm running into is getting the mod bug for it...there's so much you can do to the turbo engine, it's hard not to.
