2006 SR5 Radio swap to OEM nav radio HELP

I have been searching the forum all morning trying to find my answer and I haven't found it yet even though I am sure its here somewhere. I have found lots of posts of other radio swaps but am unable to find one for the stock to stock so I'll just post it and see what happens.
I have an 06 SR5 runner that the button back lights are all out on just the radio unit. I found an OEM nav radio for the 4th Gens really cheap and local. I'm wondering if its plug and play to go from the stock basic radio to the stock nav unit or if it would be worth my time to try to get to work?

EDIT: I finally found a feed that has a little bit of information about it but for someone uniformed as me my questions still apply but how do I tell if I have the JBL or not in my stock SR5??

then enter the search criteria

I can't answer your question because I went the opposite way by replacing the nav unit with a non-nav unit. From what I've found the stock nav leaves a lot to be desired. Probably smarter to go aftermarket. I went with a dedicated GPS which runs circles around the stock nav.

Thanks! I have seen many things you post and you have some awesome things going on by the way. Thanks for your two cents. My thing is, none of the lights except for the display light works on my current unit. I just bought the car a couple months ago and my wife you could say still isn't in love with how much I spent on it and isn't about to let me put much money into it even though I got it 3,000$ less than book value. I found the nav unit for 70$ about ten minutes away from where I live so I was looking into it, but maybe I will just live with the annoyance for now and save for an upgrade later. If I am going to do it, as usual, it sounds like I aught to just do it right.

I believe it should say 'JBL Synthesis' over the door speaker grills in the front. Like this pic shows

It will also have JBL on the stock head unit/radio.

If I am going to do it, as usual, it sounds like I aught to just do it right.

Words to live by.


There is a lot more involved in adding a stock nav unit to a non-nav vehicle than just buying the head unit and putting it in. Believe you need JBL unit to start, then add GPS module, etc. If you want to do this on the cheap, get a Garmin.

Your other (Better, IMO) option would be to purchase a double-din head unit that supports Apple or Android apps (depending on your phone) There is a special cord that will transfer full information and display from the phone onto the HU screen.

I don't have personal experience with Pioneer, usually stuck with JVC products. But as long as it has the "App Radio" support it should do the trick. This will also give you Bluetooth talk and music streaming abilities. Win-win-win

Thanks all for the advice. I do not have the JBL system. Looks like I am headed back to comb the forum looking for what that means for me and I know there is a huge thread on double-din units. Thanks again!
