Geezer K.I.S.S. lift/level kit question.

I'm a grouchy old bas**** who was driving Bronco's before most of you whipersnappers were born, so when I ask these questions, refrain from providing long winded technical crap, or any attempt to educate my sorry asz.

I have a 2006, Sport Edition, a/t, 4x4, v-6, bone stock.

1. I might like to have a local 4x4 shop do a very modest level or lift on my truck. Depending on your input.

2. I dont want to change, axels, differentials, transfer case, brake, steering, springs, or any other major stock components.

3. I mostly drive highway miles, sometimes towing a small skiff, up and down the East Coast chasing fish.

4. Sometimes I air down and drive over the beach to get to a premo surf fishing destination. Sometimes I launch my boat from "rustic" ramps.

5. I'm always hauling substantial fishing gear, and usually two worthless dogs.:fishing:

So, what are the pros and cons of a modest level or lift kit. Does it make my rig a better rig? For which I'll spend the $$, or... Does it only give me a "cool" look, in which case I will instead spend my money on my next visit to the "Little Saigon Massage Pallor"?

Really, guys/gals, thanks for giving me a little guideance. I really like my T4R and this is a terrific forum with so many very knowledgeable people. As far as my truck is concerned, I wouldn't make a move without your input. Thanks.

Do you have any idea in mind for how much lift you would like? You can go up to three inches with no other mods, such as what you listed. I would do a lift that includes 4x4 FJ Cruiser springs, these provide a little lift and a much improved ride imo, plus they will handle loads better. O have fj springs just in the front with a half inch spacer, I can't do a lift in the rear though so that's why it's only on the front. Click the link inmy sig to look at my write up with pics. Let us know more about what amount of actual lift you are going for and we can suggest a spacer to combine with the springs that should help you get what you are looking for. Also, be advised that you have the xreas suspension and some shops won't work on them. You will want to make sure the shop is familiar with the system before the install, if not your shocks could be damaged.

I appreciate your desire to keep it simple, cheap and effective. Some more info might help...

1. I might like to have a local 4x4 shop do a very modest level or lift on my truck. Depending on your input. Why? Are you seeking looks, ground clearance, room for bigger tires? All of the above? This will come into play. If the goal is to level the rig a bit but ground clearance isn't a huge consideration then that might change the answer a bit.

2. I dont want to change, axels, differentials, transfer case, brake, steering, springs, or any other major stock components. Most of us don't either. One of the great things about the 4Runner is you can add a modest lift with no other mods and no significant loss of reliability. It almost like it was designed to be about 2.5"higher in the front and 1.5" in the rear then they lowered it for delivery to "general public".

3. I mostly drive highway miles, sometimes towing a small skiff, up and down the East Coast chasing fish.

4. Sometimes I air down and drive over the beach to get to a premo surf fishing destination. Sometimes I launch my boat from "rustic" ramps.

5. I'm always hauling substantial fishing gear, and usually two worthless dogs.:fishing: They sound like pretty lucky worthless dogs:D Mine would love to ride and fish as a profession:lmao: On the rear I'd think about Airlift1000 to level the vehicle when loaded.

I think you're a prime candidate for a FJCruiser setup with some 1/4" (1/2" net lift) top-spacers for the front and some Firestone or Airlift on the rear. The thing about that setup is it will do all you want in fine style but the overall lift is minimal. If you find a full FJC setup including shocks that would be the way to go IMHO. All have that have gone that route in place of XREAS love it. IMHO if clearance isn't a huge issue it's the way to go and the dogs can still get in and out easily.:D

Not wanting to make a bad move, I wanted to check with you guys/gals before I pull the trigger on my planned mods.

I have a stock 06 T4R, 42d, v6, Sport Edition with the XREAS system.

I would like to have a professional shop install a modest lift/level to:

1. Give me a better height enhanced visibility.

2. Maintain the great ride of my very highway friendly truck for long haul small boat towing as well as the occassional fish chasing beach driving. I do not otherwise drive off road. I air down to beach drive, of course.

3. Give me a wider tire size choice.

4. More pleasing to the eye.

I believe the simplest solution for the above may be the DayStar comfort ride, 2.5" front/1.5" rear Lift Kit KT09115BK

Considering the complication of the XREAS, but not wanting to discard it, and considering my ultimate desires, does this sound like a good choice? Thanks very much for your imput.

Daystar is fine w/xreas. I didn't notice a change in visibility so don't count on that as being a benefit. Be prepared to loose mpg's with a lift and bigger tires. If I was not going to be offroading and didn't need additional ground clearance I would add a 1" toytec or cornfed to level the front and an All Terrain in stock size. Looks, function, and retained mpg's. Also look at installing airbags if towing a lot.
