The Highs and Lows come on when you flash 2 pass. Flash to pass is when you pull the stick towards you momentarily and then let go. The lights come on for a sec and when you let go, they go off. It's not good to rapidly turn on/off HIDs.

On Toyotas, the turn signal stalk is pulled towards the steering wheel to flash. The highbeam is only on as long as the stalk is pulled, when pushed towards the dash (as long as the low beams are on) it keeps the highbeam on until it's pulled back.

I've never really noticed the lowbeam turning on/off when doing this, I thought it was only the highbeam that flashes & low beams stay on. I guess I'll have to take a look and have a buddy pull the stick back.

The low beam only flashes if the lights aren't on to begin with. When I think about it, I probably don't use flash to pass in daylight often enough to worry, just the occasional "warn oncoming traffic of impending speed trap," but it would be nice to idiot-proof it.

The low beam will come on when the highbeam is on for flashing or in regular use. Unlike headlights that use a dual filament bulb design, i.e. 9003, 9004, or 9007, the low beam does not turn off when the high beam is on.

What do you mean by "problem"? On my '06 the low beam will come on or stay on whenever the highbeam is on. So for the longevity of HIDs, it would be a problem if you're always behind a slow poke that doesn't know what to do when there's a nice pile of cars riding his/her bumper and you're constantly flashing them with your high beam.
For the same reason, I wish I know how to disable the flashing part of the headlights when the alarm and/or panic is activated. Flashing parking lights will do for me.

The alarm part shouldn't be a problem for me, I'll say something to the shop when I get a DEI installed. Still, I'd like to fix the flash to pass so that it only flashes the high beams.

Fog Light Use
I do not have HIDs, but a common practice for me is to ride people with my low beams, get close enough to them (less than one car lenght) for about 4 seconds, then back off 2 car lenghts and now that I got their attention I flash them by turning on and off my Fog lights.
This tells them that I need to go faster, but I am not going to be an A double Snakes about it by flashing the highs on them.
This works 90% of the time, and when it does not, then I use the HIGH beams and give it to them.
I am not promoting this practice, I am only expressing my technique. :driving:

Uneek: I tried this the other night, had my lows on and was up against a wall, I flashed my high beams and did not notice the lows turning off/on

As for the lows flashing, they won't turn OFF if they're already ON, but they will flash ON with the highs if they are initially OFF.

I originally thought the lowbeams stayed off when I flashed them against my garage door, but because the high and lows are so close together and about a foot away from the garage door, it doesn't appear that the lows are on.
On mine, if the lights are all off and I flash the highbeam the lowbeam will come on with the highbeam. If the lowbeams are on, and I flash the highbeams and the lowbeams will stay on. The fogs will turn off when the highbeams are on, but the lowbeams will stay on. I don't have the foglight anytime/always on mod done. The lighting is stock.

Yes, you got it right. The central ones are PIAA 540 Fog and the outer set is Hella Rallye 4000 Euro Beam.
540 are great for off-roading or driving in traffic in more then 1 vehicle. Very noticeable in a distance. They are also amazing in bad weather when visibility is low.
4000 are awesome lights. They filling up the space between the low and high beams on the road + they also gives two concentrated light beams and lights-up the hi range objects way ahead. So basically they are combine lights from Low/Driving and Pencil Beams.
I like my setup allot. I had 510, 520 on my truck before I came up to this setup and I'm happy with it.
