2006 V8 Timing Question

I've been reading posts about V8 timing belt changes and read that the notch on the crank pulley needs to be lined up with the zero. I went out to look at my truck and noticed that the notch was not lined up with the zero. It was off to the left and then when i started and stopped the truck it was on the underside. Is this normal? The truck runs smooth. I assume that the notch needs to be lined up with the zero for the initial belt install but that it will not automatically stop in that position once the vehicle is started and stopped. Am I correct in my assumption? Thanks.

That is normal and correct, you need to line everything up to do the timing belt change but during routine operation the engine won't preferentially stop with the marks lined up.
