2006 v8 which coolant to use?

I have pink coolant (well it definitely looks pink and not red anyway) and its a tad low on the overflow bottle and its not full up to the radiator cap so at the very least I need to top it off.

I can tell the top hose is full by squeezing it and I see it in the filler neck so its not leaking, just low.

question is which coolant to use? I want good shit and im not looking to get the cheap shit but not looking to go buy it from the dealer and pay a fortune either.

is it really worth going buy oem coolant or just a good brand at the auto store?

I see where Toyota pink coolant should be good for 80k miles so even if it had been changed once already, im thinking I may as well do a coolant drain and refill since it has 155k miles and im sure everything is all original seeing as how this was used as a company vehicle its whole life

“Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology. V8 needs 12.3 liters or 13 qts or 3.25 gallons. 2004 onward takes the pink premixed coolant; not the same as red. Pink is #00272-SLLC2 $22.48 at dealership. Zerex ZRX 675130 Asian Vehicle Anitfreeze is $15 at NAPA.

I recently changed out some fluids (coolant, transmission, transfer case, front differential, rear differential) in my new-to-me 2011 Limited that I bought last May. It currently has 151,000 km on it.

When doing my research and considering Toyota Genuine fluids versus alternatives, I did decide to stick with the Toyota Super Long Life Engine Coolant. This decision was supported by my independent mechanic - this coolant is some of the best in the automotive world.

I know it might be a little more expensive than similar equivalents, but my engine and my 4Runner are worth it!

Also, I did a coolant flush (not a simple drain) and fill.

Pep Boys carries a Recochem OEM coolant in concentrate and diluted for Yota's

Wal-Mart carries Valvoline Zerex

Some auto parts will carry Pentosin Pentofrost A4-diluted for Yota's also.

It's either Toyota Long Life Pink or Zerex Asian for me, I wouldn't use anything else, from all I have ever read only the Toyota and the Zerex Asian meet the strict requirement of what Toyota uses, there are other "Asian" anti-freeze out there but I have not read anywhere that they meet the requirements and I'm not taking the risk.

Zerex states that it meet or exceeds the requirements of "red" coolant, but don't let that word "red" fool you it is a pink color and not red, that being said you can put Toyota Pink in older Toyota vehicles that calls for Toyota Red, but you can't put the red in newer vehicles that call for the pink, i.e. the pink is backward compatible, but the red is not forward compatible.

Both Toyota and Zerex are 50/50 premixed so just use it as is right out of the jug.

You can get the Zerex Asian for under or around $15 a gallon st most auto store and sometime Wal-mart if they have it in stock, You can find the Toyota Long Life Pink for anywhere between $15+ on sale and up to $25 or more not on sale, but it's either from the dealer or online.

Toyota Long Life Pink and Zerex Asian are the same stuff more or less?

is it like with regular parts where asin brand parts are the same as oem parts?

im not looking to cheap out over $20 difference if oem is better

and am I reading that right? it takes 4 whole gallons (3 1/4) for the v8? that seems like a hell of a lot since most big v8 vehicles of the past only needed 2 gallons

COOLING SYSTEM

Total capacity: 4.7 L V8 (2UZ−FE) engine 12.3 Litres (13 quarts, 10.8 imperial quarts).

Coolant type: “Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” is used in your Toyota vehicle at factory fill. In order to avoid technical problems, only use “Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non−silicate, non−amine, non−nitrite, and non−borate coolant with long−life hybrid organic acid technology. (Coolant with long−life hybrid organic acid technology is a combination of low phosphates and organic acids.)

ok, thanks, cant imagine where they made room to fit an extra gallon plus coolant but if that's what it takes then that's what I need lol

The 13 quarts is the total coolant, which includes the engine block, if you don't drain the engine block you have not removed all the old coolant and you will not get 13 quarts out nor back in.
