Those 3 SUVs are car based , not truck based. Not that that has anything to do with it. Car based SUVs are what most consumers want.......HOPEFULLY Toyota won't follow suit with the revised 4R.

All three are newly redesigned vehicles. All three are NOT true SUVs. All three are designed around a FWD platform. I'd like to see any one of those tow a boat or off-road.

There seems to be a deliberate effort to not recognize Toyota and Lexus. In almost every category there is a STRONG contender from either Toyota/Lexus. Even when you read the comments from the public you can sense that because Toyota is so successful there is this jealous/hateful atmosphere. It must be human nature to try and knock down anything that is successful. I don't understand this! The old saying "There is always someone trying to knock you off the top". Imagine someone having the balls to say "A real man would not drive a Tundra".

In all seriousness, the SUVs on the list are car based. How many people actually use their SUV's off-road? I would hedge a bet that less than 10% of all SUV's sold see off-road action, which kind makes the off-road SUV a niche market. I haven't been in the Mazda or in the Honda, but the Acura MDX is very nice, and will tow up to 3500 lbs with ease. One thing about the Acura that is outstanding is the technology and the finish of materials. People spending 35k or more want bells and whistles and want luxury.

Just feel confident that by owning a 4Runner, you already have one of the best built SUV's that can handle nearly anything you encounter, not just the malls.

It's not a best of list of vehicles since that seems to be how some of you are taking it;it's a list of vehicles that represent some big changes in technology or design or even a trend that others will follow.

The 4runner didn't make the list since it's not only in it's 5th year of production but it doesn't present anything significant to the market but it could be in the next few years when the next gen debuts.

Just with the Tundra being there is quite a big deal and it's a Toyota and it's the vehicle that has created the biggest stir of any other '07 vehcile period.

The Tundra is very significant because it's the first import truck to directly target the big three in america's target buyer for full size trucks. The big three have been fearing a full size Toyota for a long time.

I also will debate what an SUV is. To the whole auto industry it means pretty much anything with a rear useable space. I think Sub's Forester is considered an SUV so really there's no point is debating that part of the article.

My idea of an SUV is what you guys think it should be like a 4Runner comes stock but it does lose some of it's SUVness once marred by the trend of 22" wheels being slapped on them. It reduces function (not to mention every bit of performance) for form's sake and that is not what an SUV is about IMO.


Dang,I can't find the link os that I saw that was significant to the auto industry,that autoblog link is more vehciels that are "most wanted" which is kinda lame.

:iagree: IMO, a SUV should be a truck based vehicle that can tow and off-road. Ride comfort comes second to capabilites. Otherwise, car based SUVs should be stationwagons. The Forester is a lifted stationwagon, lift a WRX and it becomes a Forester. Lift an A6 Avant, it's an All-Road.

The main criteria was "Most Wanted". There is only 1 Most significant. I don't agree with choosing the Tundra (which is not even on the road yet). I'm sure it will have the biggest impact on the industry but not the most significant. I would give that to the LS460. It is the most advance vehicle ever made. When I ordered my IS350, I was told by the sales manager he had over 100 pre-orders for the LS460. The friggen thing parks itself.
