2008 - Rear Weather Strip Replacement

Hey guys,
I have searched the forum and found a couple of topics, but not sure they apply. I am talking about the strip inside, not the the outer strip which seems to be what I find when I search for the part.

I noticed yesterday that the weatherstrip on the rear of my 2008 SR5 was sagging in the middle. When I tried to straighten, it I realized the whole thing was bad.

Anyone know where to find replacement, is it a tough job?

I also have a small tear in the entire weatherstrip along the top, so I might as well replace both that and the interior piece

Funny thing, just purchased the seal for the rear window. It comes in two parts for the outer seal, not sure about the interior one. Paid $131 w/shipping after shipping from Toyota Parts Deal - Lowest Price for Genuine Toyota Parts


Dealer wanted $250 for both :frusty:
Should be the same part# for 03-09
Bottom: 68290-35031
The rest: 68275-35020

Install is supposed to be easy, but I'm not positive having not done it yet. Hoping to get it by Saturday.

Thanks for the input, but I don't think that's the piece I need. It seems like a separate piece of weatherstrip underneath that. I'll try to take another picture.

The "scraper" portion on the bottom that looks like it is coming out a little? Should be included in the bottom seal: 68290-35031

Should get mine in a couple days, I'll let you know

Yeah, it's a separate piece. I pulled the whole thing out and stuck it back in as good as I could. But obviously, it's not working order

Roll down glass, pry out the old one. New one snaps down over the sheetmetal. It will make sense when you see the new one. Part runs $26 to $36 depending on what Toyota Dealer parts dept. you go to.

I have done both front doors, both rear doors, and this tailgate (back door) weatherstrip.

It's funny, my 1985 4Runner weatherstrip is 30 years old.... still stock.

I just want piece of mind while going through car washes that water isn't pouring inside my doors...

Got the new seals installed. I opted to install all three. Based on the picture, the only part you need is the bottom scraper seal on the outside. 68290-35031 Wouldn't hurt to replace all of them while you are doing it.

Bottom: 68290-35031
Sides/Top: 68275-35020
Interior Bottom: 68291-35021

Moderately easy. I think part of it isn't seated correctly in the track, I'll be re-seating it tomorrow as the motor is groaning trying to close if for some reason.

I need both the "scraper blade" that goes behind the outer bottom molding (touches the window) but I also need the bottom outer molding piece as mine has rotted. The sides and top around the glass are fine. Is it possible to get just the bottom outer molding? If so, what's the part numbers for both pieces? It's so hard to tell on the diagrams.

This. I actually replaced the very same part earlier today while waiting for my food to be made. The interior rubber was starting to peel. It was a very easy process. Takes two minutes to replace and reinstall.

Some supposedly used a flathead to yank one side in order to get the process started up but I just used my fat fingers to yank one end up and pull the other end. It's like replugging a monitor cable. Just take it off and plug the replacement in.

Be sure to do the replacement with window rolled down!

Karyins - I hope you've fixed this by now, but if not: yes, the same part is listed for 2003 to 2009 T4Rs. The 4Runner is not known to be difficult to work on, but this is absolutely the easiest thing to fix on the whole truck. No tools are needed. Just roll down the rear window and start prying up on the edge of the weather seal with your fingers. It's just a pressure fit along the bottom edge. It's a little sticky but it will come up. Then wipe out the years of accumulated dirt and slide on the new one. Just be careful of the rear wiper blade mount where it lays against the weather strip.

That same corner of the outer trim molding is separated like that. It must’ve been a flaw where the side pieces were too short or something. I was planning to try to replace that at some point to get a better fit. Fortunately my inner seal is in good shape and doesn’t leak. I wonder if that outer trim molding is as easy to change?

That rubber channel that goes around the sides and top of the window actually goes all the way down the side in the lower part of the hatch, it is also the groove/guide for the glass, you will have to remove the glass to replace it, being such a long piece of rubber it has shrunk over the years and is why it doesn't meet up with the the lower exterior weather stripping any longer, but as it is now it shouldn't allow water to enter the interior, only into the hatch itself which has drain holes in the bottom that will let the water exist the hatch, IF they're not clogged.
