That rubber channel that goes around the sides and top of the window actually goes all the way down the side in the lower part of the hatch, it is also the groove/guide for the glass, you will have to remove the glass to replace it, being such a long piece of rubber it has shrunk over the years and is why it doesn't meet up with the the lower exterior weather stripping any longer, but as it is now it shouldn't allow water to enter the interior, only into the hatch itself which has drain holes in the bottom that will let the water exist the hatch, IF they're not clogged.

Thanks, that’s what I was afraid of. When I saw it in a parts diagram awhile back, it looked like it had “legs” that extended down inside the hatch. I don’t remember the exact price, but it wasn’t cheap!

Lots of good info I've read.

My 2010 SR5 finally came to the point the weather stripping needed replacement. Dealer wanted $600+. I've got to be honest here, I'm no mechanic, body guy or DIY'er. Found a body shop that used the OEM parts and had me in and out in 15 minutes for $384 (parts and labor). So I did save some money. Wish I could do this kind of stuff but it turns into a disaster everytime.
