2008 speaker/subwoofer replacement?

I've been jamming out pretty heavily recently, but apparently now I have blown out the sub or speaker that is in the driver door. Bugs the crap out of me when I hear that vibrating noise....
I've got a couple questions for any audiophiles before I begin replacing it.
If I replace it with a brand like KICKER, will I need to get an amp as well?
Does anyone know the size of that sub or speaker in the door?

for factory upgrade / replacments, I do alpine type s , you can get those for cheap on ebay, less than 150 for the front and rear. got to shop around. if you are serious like some of us here, I do a full sound deaden door and nice speaker upgrade, and amp it. nice brands are focal and hertz and hybrid audio. cost to floss.

You can just replace the blown speakers without an amp change.

6x9 in the front doors, 6 1/2 in the back doors

Just replaced all speakers in 2005

I had the same problem with the speakers in my 2005...I replaced the subwoofer with a Kicker and did not replace the amp. It sounds pretty good to me. I guess you can go with an amp upgrade to get a better sound, but I am happy with what I am hearing. I went with 6.5" speakers in the front and rear doors and bought some speaker adapters to accommodate the change in speaker size in the front lower. I also replaced the tweeters in the front door using adapters from tacotunes.com. I scavenged the connectors from the old tweeters and it worked out fine.
I would suggest buying a door panel removal kit (which consists of a bunch of various-shaped pry bars). It made removal a lot easier. Also, be sure you go with a shallow subwoofer. The one I purchased did not fit and I had to snip some plastic from the interior to allow it to seat further back.
I have the install manual from Crutchfield in .PDF form if you need it.

My sub was in pretty bad shape when I bought my truck but it finally let go and was driving me crazy. I read about kickers and the like but they do seem to need more power to drive them at the same level as the stock door speakers.

I was able to find a dual voice coil from Pioneer that was a drop in. I had to drill a few new screw holes in the plastic enclosure but that was it. Taking all the plastic off to access it was the hardest part of the install. I think it sounds much better than stock. TS-SW2002D2, 8 inch sub.

It doesn't "rock the house" but it's much better than the pop, pop, pop of a blown sub.

Are you stating that I can keep my factory head unit and put in alpine type s speakers and will have decent results? I want decent sound, and will perhaps upgrade the factory hu someday, but don’t really care about sound quality in my car. I just don’t want a blown speaker like I have now.

alpine type s and pioneer are good replacement speaker, powered by head unit power you get decent sound. i know you guys want to be cheap and this is what i recommend that dont break your pockets, ebay should have what you need, just need adapters and know how to wire it back up.

I appreciate the reply!

Not so much about cheap, but about the fact that I dont care that much about car audio. I would like to retain the factory tweeters, perhaps even upgrade them slightly too, since I will taking the door cards off anyways. Any recommendations for a lower woofer and separate tweeter? Seems there are eBay kits out there with 6.5" lowers and new tweeters. Maybe that is a good way to go?

Thanks!
