So did you snag that rack off the subie before you sold it? That would be a good start. Props on the subie though that thing looks like fun! Your gonna love the power and roominess of the t4r vs the subie. On the flip side the subie was much cheaper to mod and repair. Lol

No, unfortunately I did not. I wanted to sell the Subaru as a complete ready to run vehicle. Also I wanted to try a different rack. I'm going to get the Baja rack that's made to fit the 4Runner in place of the factory rack.

Thanks! The Subie was really fun and got some funny looks. It had a dual range gearbox with a locking center diff so I had 4hi and 4lo with a LSD in the rear just like a truck. It went many places a car should have never gone and lived to tell about it! But it had many limitations because its a car, especially with vehicle recovery. Unibody is no bueno for having strong recovery points and carrying heavy loads. That's why the 4Runner is now the new project.

Update: Got the front body mounts chopped and purchased a set of Rear Lower Links from Metal Tech.

These things are BEEFY!:gun4: I'll do a write up on the install with some pics this weekend.

LED interior lights all around including doors, roof, glove box, and license plate. Just went to Superbrightleds.com and put in my vehicle information and it gave me a list of compatible LED's for the truck, easy.

Also I finished my HAM radio mounting.

I purchased the Panavise mount and then fabbed an adapter out of some aluminum flat stock for mounting my radio and handset.

I used a wingnut on the back of the display mount so I could easily take it down and stow away when parked.

nice! your going to love it when you have all of the new links installed. I was really surprised at how much the rear flexes with the MT kit.

what rack are you going with?

I see your in Oregon, I am up there like 5 times a year. We will need to get together when I'm up there so we can hit browns camp.

I'm thinking about going with the Baja Rack right now. Does everything I'm looking for in a rack and the price is very reasonable.

In your build thread. There was a picture of you grinding with an angle grinder or something during the install. What was that needed for?

That was LT from Metal Tech doing the front body mount chop. He was cleaning up the cut he just made and prepping it to weld on the plate. I wish i had a welder and 220 in my garage!

I made some more progress on the build today. Inspired by Dawgrunner's build I began work on the rear cargo area.

I cut out a piece of 3/4" cabinet grade poplar plywood to fit the cargo area.

Rounded the corners and drilled out holes to bolt through to the truck.

Glued and stapled on the back some auto upholstery to match the interior. Bolted the subfloor to the truck using the spots that the factory tie down points use then bolted the ARB fridge slide on it.



Thanks Dave for all of your input on this and letting me copy your idea. Adding spacers to the subfloor to level it out and using t-nuts on the fridge slide mounts was the only way to go. Thank you!



I also put on the Dirty Parts rear swaybar end links

Also got the Baja Rack bolted on too.

Just curious why you did a body mount chop.

Did the 255/75/17 BFG KM's rub? With all the reading I did about this size there should be no rubbing on a lifted runner. Curious if they did infact rub a little.

I have that size on my 4Runner and only have a little bit of rub on my fender liner. I just need to push the liner forward

I don't have any rub with that size. Seems to hit or miss with the inner front fender liner rubbing. No body chop needed. Just make sure you mount the esivoirs right do they don't get hit by the tire at full wheel lock. I had to modify my AllPro resivoir mount on the passenger side do to the washer fluid bottle being in the way.

Update:

I got some more wiring done. Still waiting on the back ordered National Luna Dual Battery Kit to show. But in the mean time I got the second battery and tray all settled under the hood. Also got a second 12v outlet wired in the rear cargo area that will be always on. It will come off of the aux battery and be for the ARB fridge. Also I finished up installing my Cobra 75-WXST CB. I put the unit under the center console and attached it to the bracket that the arm rest box bolts to the truck with. Then cut a hole in the arm rest box for the CB handset to plug into. Ran power through the firewall and to the battery. Nice and tidy and can stow it away very easily. Feels good to knock some things off of the list.

The last trip in this vehicle was the entire WABDR and then back down to the Overland Rally this last summer.

Just wanted to say LOVE your Subaru! Amazing vehicle!
