2008 SR5 4WD Issue

I just bought a 2008 SR5 4x4 yesterday and there seems to be an issue with the 4WD. When I switch from H2 to H4 both the four wheel drive indicator light and the center differential lock indicator lights continue to blink.

Additionally, when I switch from H4 to L4 the 4Lo light blinks and beeps. Does anyone know if this is a computer issue or an issue with the actual 4WD?

Not to sound dumb, but are you at a complete stop with the transmission in neutral when you switch into 4LO?

Yes. I did come to a complete stop and put the car in neutral and turned to 4LO.

I had the same issue with my 2007. Turned out the front diff actuator was bad. 300 bucks later all is well again :wink2:

$300????! You need to share who your mechanic is....

If its the actuator, bring it back to the dealer and have them fix it. Unfortunate that you didn't catch the issue before purchase, but hopefully they stand behind the product they sold.

My actuator went bad and it was a $2200 bill. Actuator itself was 1100.

I think trillion$ is possibly talking about an actuator on the front diff on V6 models and not the $2200 transfer case actuator but not sure.

I'm pretty sure the only one that will be able to answer that is the dealer you bought it from. Whether we think it is or not won't really be of much assistance. Regardless, if you just bought it yesterday and it is not working properly take it back, tell them to fix it or try to get your money back.

You could argue that it would be - the powertrain should technically be any part of the vehicle that transfers engine power to the wheels.

I'd bring it in and bring it to their attention. The sooner the better. It is incredibly frustrating to buy a vehicle and find out that something is, in fact, wrong with the vehicle. Shows you how much the dealer actually checked it out before selling it...

03_4x4Runner is correct. I have the V6 model and this was the actuator on the front diff NOT the transfer case actuator.
