2008 V6 Urban Runner question regarding multi mode selector

I appoligize if this question is sounds redundant, but I am looking to purchase a 2008 V6 4Runner Urban Edition and I noticed the multi-mode selector knob only has 4HI and 4LO.

I understand that the V8 models only have 2 selections as they operate with full-time 4wd, but shouldn't the V6 model have 3 selections (2HI, 4HI, 4LO)?

Has anyone else come across this in a 4th gen v6?

Thanks,

J

It's not a v6 or the dial bezel has been changed... Your only two options. V6 has 3 options , v8 has 2 as you stated.

possible? maybe. likely? nah.

i would check the title and car fax carefully before purchasing. for some reason someone swapped out the bezel and or the switch to one from a v8.

I agree that maybe it's not a v6 too. If it is a V8 don't tell the owner and talk him down because you're looking for a V8 lol.

You could always look inside the engine bay to see what is in there. :naughty:
To see if either the bezel or the external characteristics of the 4runner have been changed to make it look like an Urban Runner. But who knows.

Wow, what a flashback! Did you by chance buy this guy's truck??? J/K

The only reason why I can see someone changing the switch is to prevent the truck ever being in 2wd. Admittedly I don't drive mine much anymore since I have a company car so the wife mostly uses it when she works on the weekends. I always leave the switch in 4HI after I've driven it so she doesn't have to worry about what mode it's in case of inclement weather.

maybe the seller just debadged it (not like that's ever been done) and doesn't really know what engine is in his 4Runner?...(can't say it'd be the first time I've heard of this either...) some pictures would help us get to the bottom of this. what does the front grill look like... v8's have the emblem (unless it's been removed...) v6 or v8 would be obvious as soon as the hood is opened.
