Cheapest way? probably fleabay, however, those DVDs may look legit, they (most) are copies. I assume they work. From Toyota, they are about $170.

You have a 4th gen 4Runner, which means you have Gen 5 navigation unit. If it still has the original DVD, then it is Version 8.1. So then, look for a "Gen5 navigation, highest version for it is the Gen5 DVD Ver 12.1".

I'm interested to know the cost of this too. As long as it's more than a few hundred I think I'll just wait a bit and replace the unit with one that doesn't hamper you as much as the Toyota one does.

More than a few hundred? Naa, apparently it retails for $199 (worst case senario at any dealer). I take back what I said about $170. Anyway, on ebay, I'm seeing the original DVDs going for $120-170............. not too bad. I'm typing in "gen5 navigation toyota 12.1" on the ebay search bar. Expensive b/c they are the latest DVDs.
