This was just his fun vehicle, and he is just trying to thin his herd a bit. As there are less drivers at the house now with him to drive all of them, he just prefers the extra workspace in his garage than tip toeing around vehicles.
But I finally have them understanding the reliabilities and capabilities of my 4runner.
