2010 4runner fob idiot light came on

I was at gas station and the key fob idiot light came on stating that I did not have a key fob with me. Anybody else have this issue. It snowed last night and went down to 15 degrees last night. could cold cause the sensor to malfunction.

Thank you for the advice. Owners manual gave me 6 scenarios as to why the idiot light would come on. battery on the remote is not causing issue either. I believe it is the sensor that comes from car. i cannot trouble shoot that. not that knowledgeable. was hoping some of the folks here could shine some light as to what would cause the light to malfunction. not first time it happened. 2nd time in three weeks. i hope its not a computer board issue. 4runner has 26 separates computers on it. thank you for your time!
