The tires seem thin, the tread looks kinda like the Dunlop's. Looks like there is a fin on top of the car for sat radio/ navigation.

Seriously, I cant believe there is still no insight, leaks, spyphotos etc of the next generation 4Runner yet.
The current model is being stretched out, but if its going to be a 2010 then this should only be about 15months out, and still nothing out there??

I want to determine when I will replace mine and will wait if the next one is less than 18months away.

I know that.

My point is there have been no sitings posted anywhere of the 5th gen yet. Or any confirmed info from Toyota, just speculations by us enthusiasts.

I have read that they are cutting the FJC from their lineup. They are getting rid of the 5.7 engine in the tundra and offering a new 4.6 liter yes 4.6 liter in the tundra with 30 more hp than the v8's in or 4r.

My guess is the 5.7 will NEVER be offered in the 4R.

The land cruiser will be the ONLY toyota car with the 5.7 engine.

That would mean the Tundra would only have approx +-310HP, when Chevy, Ford, Dodge over 360-390HP V8s, I cant see them doing that.

A 4.6 V8 at +-310HP sounds viable for a 4R, I doubt they would ever put 380HP in it.

anytime....too bad they are cutting the FJ. I guess it's better because the 4r will keep its heritage as a body on frame SUV.

IDK if Im wild about the new V8. the 2UZ-FE has been used the last 11 years and has proven itself to be completely bulletproof. Coupled with the A750f - same trans as 03+ land cruisers and same engine as Land cruisers, we have the most bullet proof drive train every conceived in a production car.

Well with so little news out there one can only make edumucated guesses!

Here is mine.

If it is true they are cutting the FJC then Toyota will still want a true off-road body on frame SUV which will be the 4runner. My guess is that they are probably re-working the design in light of high gas prices to try to cut down on weight. I bet they could probably cut out 500lbs if they really tried.

Also, I bet some sort of turbocharged 4 cylinder engine will probably be in the mix. I would guess that the V8 is history and will be replaced by a more powerful V6. 2010-2011 is when everyone is going to be rolling out hybrids, so maybe we will see one for the 4runner.

I've heard people talk of a diesel 4Runner which would be awesome, but I'm not sure if that is in the cards just yet for Toyota. They seem more interested in hybrids.

So, my guess would be a smaller and lighter vehicle still meant for offroading and with more engine choices.

Not to mention the VF4 transfer unit with the Torsen-C diff that even the Land Cruiser didn't have until now. I think the 4th gen 4Runner has been an incredible value.

Yes, the new 200 land cruiser has one specifically designed for it though, its not the "exact" same one. There are differences in build and robustness between the two; however, imo we have the most important two: engine and trans....

EDIT: In the middle of nowhere, I'd still rather be in my mom's car than my 4R

You're right. I was just pointing out that while we shared engine and tranny - which is cool by itself - that the 4th gen drivetrain was even better due to the VF4. An amazing bang for the buck, imo.
