2010 4Runner Ordering Guide Report for the U.S.

I found this U.S.A. Ordering Guide for the 2010 4Runner posted in the Edmunds forum. It shows the "Option/Package Availability With Specs." Unfortunately, it's official now: no V8 for United States.
That looks offical but reading Car and Driver the other day contradicts this option guide. They say the new 4Runner will have a redesigned 4.6L V8, will be less expensive "Guy's Truck", they also said think "four door FJ". Also both the V6 and V8 will come with a 6spd tranny and the attachment shows 5spd. Not sure who's right.
Car & Driver retracted that story on their website and blog. They now say no V8 for the 2010 4Runner.

Also, this Toyota dealer started updating its website to list the 2010 4Runner. It shows a 4-cylinder and V6. Just click on "View All" to look at the available options for the different trim levels.

The lack of a V8 could be a strategic marketing move by Toyota. It will push buyers who want a V8 Toyota towards the Sequoia or the Lexus GX.
Toyota has done this in the past. The pre-Tacoma pickup truck, 1989-94, was offered in a 1-ton long bed regular cab flavor early in its generation. That very model was dropped when the T100 was introduced because Toyota wanted to steer the 1-ton compact truck buyers towards the T100.
Maybe when Toyota see the V8 offerings of Durangos, Pathfinders and Cherokees take off, they'll offer the V8 again.

After reading the option list...the 20" wheels are listed as an Optional package that is not standard on the Limited. Therefore making me think that the Limited comes with a smaller size wheel standard. At least I hope that is the case. It would be great if all of the truck's specs and standard features were leaked out!
No KDSS on the Limited, no V8, no 6spd, this is full of fail. At least you can get the sliding deck on the Limited and not just get stuck with the 3rd row. I'll hold out until I drive/see one to form an opinion. But, I'm really leaning toward keeping my '03 V8 and buying something else, maybe a sports car.

Thanks sven. Nice to see they are offering the Trail Edition with slighly upsized tires 265/70-17 (I'm assuming the regular 5th gen 17's come with the usual 265/65-17 like on the 4th gen). The '09 TE only had 265/70-16 like the regular size 16's for the 4th gen. Also, can anyone remember from the launch of the 4th gen if they had the V8 on the offer sheets from the get go? I seem to remember it was a delayed launch/availability on the V8 for the 4th gen - you could only get it with the V6 initially. So what I'm saying is hopefully the new 4.6 will be available mid year.

I don't understand why the dual-zone climate control is only offered on the Limited and not all models. I really with Toyota would rethink their packages and options. There some things I want without having to purchase an entire package and/or different model.
Everyone knew there was going to be a V8 4th Gen before they even showed at the dealership and if I remember correctly, the V8's actually showed up before the V6 models. I know I test drove a V8 in late Oct or early Nov of 2002. I then got on-line and saw what models were being delivered to that dealer and bought the one with the features I wanted, it showed up Dec 23rd 2002.
All the first 4th Gen's I saw here were V8's. Of course then they came out with the VVTi V8 w/ increased HP :sobbing:
I learned my lesson, I will not buy a 6cyl 5th Gen, the minute I do Toyota will announce a 4.6l V8 model.

Yep, I was actually working at my local Toyota dealership back in 2002 when the 4th gen. first came out. Our very first truck was a galactic gray 4WD Limited V8. In fact, all of our first few batches that came in were V8 models.
I am glad to see that the tire size has been upped slightly on the Trail Edition. I think 1/2 of us all put them on anyways, so Toyota has no reason not to do it straight from the factory.

The 4th Gen was first delivered in 2002, not 2001. the 2003 model year was the first year of the 4th Gen
All the ones my local dealership got for the first few months were "Galactic Grey", never did figure that out. I think they got one gold Limited in when mine was delivered.

Yes I am aware of that. I must have been typing faster than my brain was working. I started working there in 01...I meant 02 was when we first saw our new 4th gen as an 03 model.

Man. You V8 guys are hardcore about your V8s. I think I need to start a V8 withdrawal hotline. Give the new 6 a fair shot before you just write it off like a joke of a motor. The current 6 is a very good engine. 35 more hp and lb/ft is a substantial improvement. I may be the only one in here looking forward to it, but I certainly am.
