2010 4Runner Ordering Guide Report for the U.S.

Does TRD make a supercharger for the 4.0 V6? I thought it was just the 3.4, 4.5, 4.7 and 5.7 motors.

Not sure which engine the 4.5 is... but they do make it for the 4.0 V6, 1GR-FE. Though it's not available for the 4Runner application, but is available for the Tacoma and FJ Cruiser.

Curiosity

I do. I have a v8 4wd and typically get 18mpg driving to work, and 19mpg on 2 lane highway driving (a bit less on the high-speed roads).

I have a ~4000lbs camper that I tow, and several boats too, so the v8 is rather nice. But the primary reason for the v8 over the v6 for me was that the v8 met the IRS Section 179 requirement for having a GVWR over 6000 lbs. I haven't seen the GVWR for the 2010 yet, but that would be the biggest deal killer for me.

My dad just bought a Tundra with the new 4.6 v8 - very nice drivetrain! Takes 9 quarts of oil too. Wow - I guess Toy still hasn't really figured out the sludge problems.

I am curious about what you said about the IRS code. What is that for? And why would that be a deal breaker for you? Also, what kind of mileage are you getting on the highway when you are towing? If the new 4r isn't what I had hoped I may just pick up a slightly used 09 sport with a V-8. Thanks for the info.:bonk:

Re: MPG while towing; It depends on the trailer. I have a light utility trailer that tows at the 18-19. Same for my lightest boats. My larger boat, a Viper sailboat, tows at 15 on the highway. I haven't done any long trips with the big camper, but in rush-hour Atlanta traffic, I've seen 12. It seems that the engine doesn't matter much for towing MPG - small engines get the same bad mileage once the trailer gets heavy enough. Even the guy who tows his Viper with a 4-cyl Subaru gets about 15 on the highway. (But he saves when he's not towing)

Re: IRS Section 179; Section 179 is the way that small businesses can purchase capital assets and count them as a current-year expense instead of being forced to carry them forward and claim annual depreciation. It saves tons of hassle and paperwork and allows your paper profit to more closely match your actual cash flow.

So, I drive for work and my truck is owned by my company. The IRS has tons of special rules for claiming vehicles. Basically, you are limited in how much you can expense for a car, but "trucks" get special treatment and qualify for "accelerated depreciation" under Section 179 - meaning they can be fully expensed in the year they are purchased. The definition of "truck" is anything over 6000lbs GVWR. So that's why the GVWR is so important for me. On the 4th gen Runner, the only model with a GVWR over 6000 is the 4wd v8.

Thanks, Jay for the info.:bouncy:

Because when I spend $35k on a new 4Runner, I'd prefer not to toast the warranty.

The TRD superchargers do not void any warranty. The will even carry the same 3 year 36,000 mile warranty if the dealer installs it. Other wise the s/c warranty is 12 months 12,000 miles and your engine warranty stays the same.

Honestly, spending a few hundred dollars to get the V8 option (if it existed) is much more attractive than spending $5k+ for a SC and then having to run Premium gas.

The SC is neat, but that is a lot of cash.

The 4.5 is the six cylinder that came in the older Land Cruisers.

I don't understand why the dual-zone climate control is only offered on the Limited and not all models. I really with Toyota would rethink their packages and options. There some things I want without having to purchase an entire package and/or different model.

I just noticed that the KDSS stabilizer, which is only available as an option on the Trail Edition, requires that you also order the Navigation System. The Nav System probably runs $2,000+ on top of the cost for the KDSS. The only reason to bundle the Nav Sytem with a hot/desireable option like KDSS is GREED. :(

Except that a few hundred dollars would be more like $2k. Still I'm with you, would tick the box on V8 in a heartbeat.

And if I could go back to 2005 I would tick the box, but didnt (and dont) need it, I just want it. And now I am perplexed at what to replace my '05 with, because my timeframe is within 12months. An '08 GX is ranking #1 on the list. A new GX will be out of my price range for a daily driver. An 08/09 4R V8 LTD 4wd also an option, but finding one?..... I have been looking...

They are probably hard to find now, but my local dealer (NY metro area) has one in white. I was surprised to see the V8 emblem in the grille when I drove by the dealership.

I don't know dude, wasn't the V8 option something like $800 more over the V6. I remember it was higher the first year and then the price difference decreased.

The problem, for some, with buying a Lexus is the lack of a dealership/service center. My local Toyota dealer won't touch a Lexus other than an oil change. The nearest dealer is 50mi away. Yeah, they'll give me a loaner, but it's 200mi worth of driving time.

all (v6) models of the 5th gen will be over the 6k mark

Ahhh. The Land Cruiser two generations ago, from 1991-97 IIRC. That was an inline six and I think it was exclusive to the TLC/LX450 only. I don't think a S/C was ever offered for it.

Yes a supercharger was offered for the old Land Cruiser six. I have a TRD catalog with it listed.

Okay, I got some confirmed information that may or may not be news to you guys:

1- Only 3 basic models-- SR5, Trail, Limited. There will be upgrade packages available for the SR5

2- XREAS will only be available on the Limited, which is standard with 20" wheels.

3- Optitron gauge package only available on the Limited.

4- Smart Key & pushbutton start on available on Limited.

5- Running boards deleted from Trail.

6- Back-up camera display is built into the rearview mirror. This is part of an upgrade package for the SR5 and standard on the Trail.

7- Hood scoop standard on Trail, not available on any other model

8- Power rear window on all models.

9- Full time 4wd system only on Limited.

So definately no KDSS option for the Limited? Epic fail. Though I could live with getting the Optitron on the Trail, I'd really like F/T 4WD.

ToyTech99,

When you say "available" do you mean as an option or it's a standard feature?

If those are options on the Limited, then the Limited just got a whole lot more expensive.

Actually, the document I read didn't make it 100% clear. I would assume that the Optitron gauges are standard on the Limited and probably the pushbutton start, but I can't be sure about that. I'm not even sure that XREAS is standard on the Limited, but the document was clear that it will not be offered on the SR5 or the Trail.
