Well, having looked at both of them up close, I can tell you that the GX is WAY nicer on the inside. It is basically trimmed exactly like the LS Sedan...very plush. With that said though, you get what you pay for as the GX is hard to find under 57k.
I owned the previous generation GX and the 5th Gen 4runner feel much more nimble on the road (as far as I could tell on the test drive of the limited). Who knows how much better the new GX handles though, I’m sure it’s better. The new rear door has a power window (still the massive barn door though) and the 3rd row folds flat instead of the fold up style jump seats from the previous gen.
4Runner wins in my book.

indeed. And, there is the fact that the current commercial campaign on TV is a soccer mom dodging pot holes on the way to practice. Not really the tough, "manly" sort of image you would get with the 4runner.
So glad I didn't buy one after seeing that commercial.I would have traded it in.
I don't give a rat's patuti about image. If it came with a hatch on the back (instead of the barn door) and I could afford it, I'd seriously consider it.
But it does have a barn door and I can't afford it :sobbing:

My feelings exactly. When I bought my '04 Limited I seriously considered the GX 470 - but the rear door was a real turn-off for me - as was the bland exterior shape.
While I am not enamored by the 5th generation 4Runner, the GX isn't even an option. Sure it has the V8 and the folding 3rd row seats (and no cheap exterior antenna and non-locking gas fuel door!!!!), but the still-present rear barn door (although at least the glass now opens) and the very steep price jump precludes it from any serious consideration.
A neighbor has a new silver GX and while the I like the exterior more than I thought I would (although still bland), the dash reminds of a Lincoln.
Will be holding on to my '04 Limited for a few more years.

It has a strange swing down cover/door that does nothing but cover the stereo when closed. VERY Lincoln'esque.

Having come out of a higher end vehicle with all the goodies, leather, nav,blah,blah,blah....I don't miss it ONE bit!!!
Driving is fun as hell again......if I get a smudge on the seat...no big deal..if I get a little mud on the carpet , I'll put a hose to it.
AND.....I might add..I don't think there's anything wrong with the way it's set up...has a lot of little do-dads and gadgets...many more than I wouldv'e thought it would have.
I know the old different tastes thing...yada, yada...Driving is a blast again!!

I really like the 4Runner interior (just wish they'd not done gray on the SR5 interior!). It fits the truck. I was just commenting that the interior on the GX is nice from a general perspective. For my usage, I don't want the GX interior. I can't throw a mountain bike in the back of that. haha
I don't plan on growing up any time soon.

:iagree: with you guys. I can't really say I like the GX460's looks any more than the 5th, maybe just a tiny smidgen. The barn door, behind slapper, is a deal breaker. And it seems that the 2nd gen GX barn door is even bigger than the 1st gen GX. The GX will not work at all in my garage. I cannot understand why Toyota would insist on using a stupid swing door design on any of its SUVs (RAV4, FJC and GX). Even Honda got away from that So Gay ness on the 3rd gen CR-V.
When it's time to replace the 4Runner, the TLC or LX will be my only option if I'm going to stay with a Toyota/Lexus product.

IF you have cash to burn, buy the gx 460.
Bottom line is that they are both THE SAME! Gx 460 only has the engine and electronic gadgets going for it, nothing else.
Sure GX has every thing on it that I hate about the new 4R
- v8 power, but similar 0-60 times
- nice running board. I think it will even fit the new 4R. Will look into
this in future once i get my 4R
- nice 18 inch wheels
- led and HID lights
- locking gas cap
- in glass antenna
- probably a better horn
- lots of electronic features that would ENABLE A BLIND PERSON TO DRIVE!
I want to get the gx, could probably pay for it up front, but Im a man of practicality. That 10-20grand could go a long long way, not worth it just to drive a lexus for me.

I have to replace my 2004 V8 next year. What to do? What to do? Like you, I can't open a barn door in my garage.
Land Cruiser or LX570 if you can swing the cash.
don't back in - open the garage when you need access / unload then close garage door.
That is what I do with our Armada and yes in Alaska as well so I understand that it is annoying when it is minus 30 out like last winter, but did not impact my purchase decision...
