2010 Limited - subtle metallic screeching noise while moving

About 5k miles ago, I noticed that I can hear a subtle metal-on-metal scratchy noise coming from the underside of the truck. I can only hear it when I have my window down. The noise is only apparent when moving - at stationary idle there is nothing. Any idea what this could be? Thanks in advance - wanted to check w those that I trust before blindly taking it in to the dealership.

I should stress that it's not an overwhelmingly loud noise - just something subtle I've noticed and now "can't not notice"!

What is the expected life on the rotors under normal, on-road use? I know I need pads, I don't know that I need rotors, though.

Just replaced the original pads at the dealership on my 2010 LTD about 2 months ago at around 44k miles. (The service receipt says the front pads had 10% remaining and the rear pads had 15% remaining.) The rotors were "resurfaced," not replaced. My wife took it in, but when I talked to the guy on the phone to see what they planned to do he said they do not remove the rotors to turn them, but instead resurface them on the vehicle. I don't know what the hell that means, but I didn't have time to deal with it that day. Total cost for the service was $727.50 after a ~$150 dealer rebate/coupon. Seemed sort of expensive to me.

Shortly after this service on the 4Runner, I called a local (non-Toyota) shop about getting the brakes done on my 2000 Tacoma. He said that modern rotors aren't really meant to be reused but should be replaced with the pads. This did not sound quite right to me, but I consulted the Google and found at least two knowledgeable car experts with radio shows who agree. See link. Makes me wonder why Toyota did not replace the rotors on the 4Runner.

This sounds like pistons in brake system wedged to support because water pressued out rubber seal of piston. There no metallic ring to hold this rubber like on TLC200, imho - this is problem. Brake pads very fast reduced when this happened
