2010+ TRD Supercharger

What time Monday? Full report anticipated.

Monday evening! Will do on the review, I am really interested to test the difference. I'm prepared to be objective because I'm hardly desperate, but the GX just seems to address every problem the 5th gen has: power and interior materials and handling (KDSS standard on all models).

I made the decision to take a look last week when I was driving my parents 2004 Sequoia, and I was smoothly merging into traffic, accelerating quickly, and really feeling the torque. Back in 2004, I used to joke about how much of a slouch that Sequoia with the 4.7 was but compared to the 4Runner it feels like a muscle car. Numbers really don't tell the whole story sometimes.

Be sure to wait for a 2014. They just redid the front end and it looks a million times better than than the outgoing model.

I wish I could afford a new one :( but I'm gonna have to go used I'm afraid.

Be sure to wait for the 14 gx460. Lexus dropped the 2014 msrp for base model almost $5k. I am looking/waiting for 14 gx460 base. Less than 8k more than limited.

My personal take on the supercharger... and some of this comes with a conversation with the TRD team at Summit this year.

The Tacoma is the best selling model on this 120 platform and all decision based upon the supercharger are most likely pending the release of the new model in 2015/16. When they rework the Tacoma, it will have the new 4.0 motor, larger 8.2" rear diff and obviously new body / interior.

When this happens, Toyota will have a reason to release a supercharger and we can enjoy the trickle down as T4R oweners.

The Reason Toyota has been doing testing with a 4runner is that it remains unchanged for 2014 in the engine department, and it will be the same drive train as the new Tacoma, and they are killing the FJ, so no reason to test it in that.

we all wish it would come together sooner, but history shows that the best selling models are what support aftermarket, and the Tacoma outsells the FJ and 4runner combined.

So as conclusion, when we get the new 4.0 in the Tacoma, we will get the Supercharger for our T4R's

Re

I'm not disagreeing or doubting your statements, but I hope you're wrong.

I looked at the 2014 T4R Limited this weekend. Oddly, the one I could find was up near Concord NH, not down near Boston. It was nice, but it's just a bit under-powered for my tastes.

Too bad, I'll have to look elsewhere...or just find a deal on a 200 cruiser :P

I'm not sure this is logical. If a SC for the new Tacoma will be compatible with the current generation of the 4R, why not release it now? It would be extra sales for TRD.

If they do release it for the new Tacoma, will it be backward compatible to the current 4R? The engine may be unchanged for 2014 from the 2013 model, but we've already seen changes to the engine in the 5th gen 4R (the smog pump that now fills the front passenger side corner of the engine bay of the 2013+ models). Who knows what other changes will be made for the Tacoma.

I, for one, would like to see a SC for my 2011 TE to help in the towing department. However, I'm not sure Toyota will be the source. I think the more likely candidate will be URD.

All the whispering I've heard indicates that the Tacoma is getting a revised version of the 2GR (3.5L) rather than our 1GR. Now that the FJ is all but confirmed dead for MY15, I think the 4Runner will be the only thing in the US that has a 1GR under the hood other than the 27 V6 Tundras they sell a year. I expect that the 6th gen 4Runner will not have a version of the 1GR.

Yikes that is a dire outlook! I still remember that TRD guy in a video from this summer saying that they had made one for the T4R but the math on releasing it just doesn't add up. What you're saying makes a lot of sense.

Logic be damned! This dreamer is still hoping that in the oddly customized 4runner at SEMA next week, the hood pops open to showcase the TRD supercharger in all of it's glory, angels singing, halo's, doves flying and all!

With Fj Cruiser phased out in 2014. It leaves 4 runner the lone toyota warrior in the fray. TRD should be working on the super charger now for 4runner. :high5:..or so i hope. !!

I have not a lot of knowledge about the TRD from Toyota, if someone wants to explain it to me I would appreciate it.

But regarding the 2010-2014 4Runner all I see from TRD is oil caps and maybe wheels from another model and the oil filter.

So my question is for the pro's, will it really make a big difference if they pull out the TRD for the 4Runner ? I mean if it will cost a couple of grands to get 15HP then WTH !

Again do not get mad, all I want is to understand what's up with this TRD $h#t.

When I asked for TRD stuff to the dealer all he offered me was oil and gas caps. Don't get me wrong but they should wake the Bruck up and make something that's worth our while imo.

TRD fell off the grid the last few years. These guys used to have a supercharger and 304 stainless headers for the 3rd gen, (granted headers made by Doug thorley). I guess CA emissions got them by the balls.

I am waiting a few more months for this supercharger. I don't wheel this truck enough. If no supercharger by next year, I will be trading in for a 2014 jeep GC SRT. That puppy hauls balls.

It would be a LOT more power. Like 60hp and 70lb-ft of torque......but with the FJ dead what is the purpose of manufacturing this thing? I don't see the business case.
