Is this an Fj? Was hoping more of a 5th gen ready for production.

That is an FJ, but it is the same engine and Supercharger. Somewhere in the first dozen pages (I stole that pic from page1) of this thread I am sure there are pics of the 4runner that TRD brought to the FJ summit with the supercharger installed.

I know this may be blasphemy, but it seems to me that the easiest swap for more power, all Toyota, and budget is a 5vz-fe.
Here's why: Then engine is cheap. Even a built version is cheap compared to a 5.7. It fits pretty easily in the engine bay. There are reasonably cheap aftermarket turbo kits. And it has strong internals. 400hp/400ftlbs is pretty easily doable. Lots of testing and lots of examples are out there. I believe trans to bell mounting is interchangeable, although bell to engine is different. But it *should* still be a bolt up swap mechanically to the transmission. You still need to control the transmission though.
Anyway - it's a bit out of the box to go backward to a smaller displacement engine, but from what I've seen the 3.4L has a lot more power potential than the 4.0 for less $.

going on three years later and this thread still exists but the supercharger doesn't. love it. :loco:
I had a 2010 Tundra with the 5.7 and it was a quick truck, even at the 380ish HP. If you could cram that motor into the 4R, you wouldn't even need a supercharger. I bet a junkyard 5.7 is pricey though!

Or even, just better gearing. I would have been the first in line to order the super charger, but after re-gearing, I wouldn't bother with the SC, even if they released it at 1/2 the expected price.
IMHO, the 5th gen should have come with 3.9 or 4.1 gearing stock. Would have given up a mpg or two, but felt as fast, or faster than the 4th gen with its smaller tires.

Gotta agree I would much rather have the extra gearing going down a steep slope thane having a nose heavy V8!

I had the TRD Supercharger in my 2011 Tundra Rock Warrior Crewmax. Sick power and total reliability. I hope they do one for the 4Runner, but they said it is not looking like they will.
