2010+ TRD Supercharger

Because the Raptor in question was part of the original test mule program that ran Trail of Missions last year, and was essentially on loan to Cameron Steele.

But last time I checked Ford wasn't doing a complete frame recall on their light trucks like the Tacoma.

While Ford Performance is off making absolutely batshit nuts vehicles, that by all means no reasonable team of lawyers would allow to ship, Toyota is absolutely destroying their TRD program and making neutered crap like the TRD Pro Tacoma, which is almost Raptor level costs for some Fox shocks and crappy Rigid SRM fog lights.

The suspension on my truck is almost 18K in costs, it's raptor level suspension, but it doesn't feel like raptor level suspension. There's a big difference between straight from the factory, and dumping a LOT of money into something to get half the performance.

That's why for some of us this SC is like too little too late. Our opinions and needs change over time, and it's hard to try to ram rod a solution into a vehicle never designed to be a performance vehicle, and see it as a good use of money.

I can't justify my long travel setup, ultimately it comes down to your definition of money well spent. For me, I'm starting to see that I'd like to go fast, and carry less weight in the truck. And as a platform Toyota doesn't offer what I want.

Raptor is very likely my next truck.

If your platform requires almost the original cost of the truck just to solve suspension and power issues, your platform has been outclassed, big time. The 4Runner has now become the JKU of the Toyota world, and that's not a compliment.

I actually completely agree. $6k for an estimated 50hp is way too steep. Coming from a couple cars where tuning is much easier that is a crazy price for those gains. Everyone complains about the power of the 4runner but honestly it feels fine to me(point of reference I live in Utah and frequent higher altitudes) . It is not meant to tow so who cares? Is it meant to be a race car? Nope... Is it meant to be a desert racer? Nope it was not designed to. I would be stoked to see you in a Raptor. You gotta go where your needs are. I love people trying to bash you for a rational decision on what you have determined your wants and needs are. Thanks for adding to the community you have pushed the envelope of the platform. As for everything else we salute your 4runner SHAAAWINGGG...

Eying the Raptor myself, it'll be in addition to the 4runner. Getting rid of my supercharged 2014 dodge durango, and my 2015 ram rebel for it. The raptor is such a show stopper hah.

Exactly, and I've been trying to tell people this for six years. There is nothing more reliable and durable ( excepting known weak points) than a stock vehicle... from ANY OEM. If you have to mod, (and I mean mod, not accessorize, like skids, tires, sliders, etc, those are not mods.) then you have the wrong vehicle, unless the vehicle you desire does not exist, and that is not likely. What IS likely is people either A) Think they are smarter than engineers by modding for their specific situation (newsflash - you aren't) or B) Don't want to spend the cash to get what they truly want.

This supercharger kit won't be for everyone.
- It won't be free
- It won't install itself
- It won't be as reliable as OEM
- It won't make 500+ hp
- It won't improve MPG

What it will be is all speculation, but I think we have a pretty good idea of what it will be.

And again... it won't be for everyone. If you don't think it is for you... it's not necessary to proclaim why here.

Ummm this is a forum...so it's the perfect place to discuss why or why not it is a justifiable purchase. With that point being is some do not see the value like you stated. Some, myself included can see more value in a different platform that fit different needs/wants(mostly wants). I love the 4runner 5th gen platform and have nothing against it. Fact is I bought mine with the intent to keep in till it dies if it ever does which I am doubtful. It's an opinion just like yours. But there are some of us that want to be realistic about what it is the gains, price, and necessity. Because you are right it is not a magic item and it is not for everyone. I stated what I stated because people were dogging on Lawndart for voicing his opinion and pointing out his needs. He has done a lot for us 5th gen guys on pushing the envelope of where this platform can go or shouldn't go and for that I am grateful. Rant over.

I just don't see the value at 6-8K for what will be not a lot of boost, increasing complexity, fuel costs, etc.

Towing in the mountains would be a valid reason, especially if they manage to increase low-mid range torque sufficiently.

I agree on everything except the reliability comment. I've installed and ran a few Maggies over the years and found them to be very reliable. That's not to say that they don't wear out with a ton of mileage but personally I've never had one fail. Hopefully the 5th gen SC will be the same. Now the canned tune from Magnusson, I've had some issues with that but nothing a custom tune couldn't solve. Unfortunately, we don't have the custom tune ability unless DAP can do it now.
