2010+ TRD Supercharger

If the 6th gen isn't out by 2019 and doesn't come with a v8 or diesel I'm in for this.

if they did a diesel 4runner I would drop mine so quick it wouldn't even be funny.

Sadly with everything that happened with VW I highly doubt we will see any new diesels in the states.

Here is the URD dyno.. Too bad it only starts at 4k, but I'm guessing it has to do with not being able to get the trans to hold gear below that on the dyno. Autos can't be measured well unless you have control of the TCU and even then you get the converter flash...

Off topic for just a minute. [MENTION=106176]wfo9[/MENTION] I remember "TheWraith" having the same TCU issues on his dyno pulls. I wonder if an AWD dyno would have better results and less interference from the trucks computer on an LE. Of course the numbers would be much lower than a 2wd pull, but maybe the TQ numbers would show up at a lower rpm. I also wonder if an AWD dyno could handle the weight of my beloved and bloated LE.

AWD dyno makes no difference in what RPMs you can grab. The only way to get a full pull is to get the transmission to hold 4th gear and go from a low RPM... There is probably no way to do that on these trucks. The TC also plays games with the numbers.... Best solution is a manual trans or pulling the motor and putting it on an engine dyno.. but who is going to do that.

Most chassis dynos (dynojet...) are just inertia based. They measure torque by how fast the the wheels can accelerate a known mass, others use some type of brake (fluid, current...). They are really only useful to compare before and after numbers as there are too many other factors with gearing and tires.. that impact the numbers when trying to compare to stock fly wheel hp. Most people accept that there is a 10-20% drivetrain loss on a chassis dyno. But it depends on the design of the dyno brake mechanism.

If you watch the live video from FJ Summit's facebook page, theu talk to Magnuson Superchargers. To summarize, the 4runner supercharger adds 80HP, 30% percent increase in HP, and is C.A.R.B. legal. It comes with 3/36000 mile warranted and will be released in the Fall.

Happen to catch anything on the price? Or does anyone have a guess?

80hp could make adding a supercharger worthwhile.. 350 at the crank would realllly turn the 4runner into a different beast.
 
I've been told they are getting about +80rwhp/80rwtq at this point. So it's a little over 30% and about as expected.

I used to really love Diesel engines. I worked on quite a few and also drove quite a few and I really liked them. Then the OEMs were forced to put all kinds of pollution controls on them and they became unreliable and a pain to work on. That's when I stopped loving diesels. The engines themselves are great but all the pollution controls are a headache waiting to happen. Wait, isn't this the SC thread.........

I was told it will be somewhere around $5,200. They haven't released official pricing yet though.

Thanks for the pictures... Looks great and very OEM.. Good pulley wrap..... very little space needed..

Would like to see the heat exchanger up front if possible... A little hard to see with the plastic cover on, but maybe a pic from the grill.

That thing looks so sweet in there, and especially if they can target that somewhere in the $5k range I might be getting one sooner than I thought!

A question I have is, given these HP/TQ gains, would this be more beneficial than doing a regear to 4.56? With the weight of all my steel and 34" tires, I would like to eventually get a bit more pep back. Obviously doing both would be the ideal case, but if you had to choose one, which would you go with?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'd be interested to hear the arguments for regear vs. supercharger if you could only pick one. Cost wise the supercharger would be a couple grand more since I would go the ECGS route and throw in a front ARB at the same time, but which would be better to gain power back?

Of the two, re-gear. Given you're spinning bigger wheels, make the differential work smarter, not harder. Especially at slower RPMs where the supercharger wouldn't even spool up.
 
Dumb Question, but who would you get to install the thing?
Anyone detail oriented.. It's really so simple that anyone can do it... I've done several and only it only takes the ability to read instructions since they lay it all out for you. In fact, I used the magnuson instructions for things like keying the crank when doing other blowers simply because their instructions were so good. That is a bit of a PITA if you have to do it since the all the accessories have to come out... but I'm 95% sure Toyota cranks and balancers are already factory keyed.

I've also done custom ones and those require fab skills and tuning skills..... but this should be all plug and play.

The only possible issue is a truck with lots of mods... but the pics so far make me think everything will locate right where they put it.
