2011 Audio changeout

New Head Unit: Alpine iLX-207
One of the reasons I installed the INE-940 4 years ago was that I wanted to have a CD player and navigation. Well 4 years later, I think I have played 1 cd, and now with Carplay, navigation with up to date maps is now possible, Alpine updated the maps just once in the past 4 years.....
So I ordered this iL-207, so far so good. installation took 10 minutes total, including removing the old one. the wiring was almost identical. steering wheel controls still work. I lost the aux input as the new unit does not have a provision for it, however I was able to add a HDMI input cable, I plan to use for viewing video and photos from my video camera.
I will post some screenshots shortly.

Added the Focal IC 165TOY coaxials to the rear door. wish these had been available when I bought the car back in 2011, took maybe 5 min per door a direct drop in replacement. Planning on doing the fronts once I can save up enough money.

Have the rest of the system installed, just waiting on the dash speaker brackets, I had to buy new ones because i threw everything away when I changed out the speakers in 2012.
OOPS! back in 2011 or was it 2012? I ended up cutting the factory plug, although I saved them, I did not leave enough wire to solder them back on, fast forward to 2018, now there is a drop in focal system, so it would be nice to have the connectors so I could just plug and play. well after a week of searching I could not find that connector anywhere, however I was able to buy a used toyota sequoia off of fleabay for 10 bucks, and.... with a little trimming it fits great. I will be soldering it back on this weekend and ordering another one off ebay.

if you are trying to buy these off ebay, make sure you get the ones shown here with the black and red wires from a sequoia. there are others, from camrys and other cars with black and blue wires that are much shorter and the wire is a thinner gauge.
****TIP****
Toyota wires the dash speakers out of polarity with the rest of the system. you will need to swap the connectors on the tweeter if you want everything to be in phase. Some people don't notice a difference, some do.

The sub will be swapped out with a 10 inch mounted in a Q-Bomb box.
The system will then be tuned and optimized.
As it is right now, I am very happy with the results so far. getting the last 10% right is what takes the most effort.

Update:
Ok, best laid plans,
had quite a bit of distortion and have not turned up the volume for the last several months. I made the decision to wait and have some professionals look at it. Problem is the only professionals I trust are down in Clearwater Florida.
I ended up having them swap out the amp for an Alpine PDX-V9, they re-did everything, built me a nice fuse holder and an amp rack and made the wiring look professional. Then they tuned it. They have all sorts of tools and the Knowledge and experience to use them. I cannot convey in words how good it sounds. Everything sounds so balanced both physically from left to right front to back, but also base vs midrange and highs, they don't over power each other, you can listen at high volume and it doesn't give you a headache. if you have never seen how really knowledgeable Car stereo tuner/installers work, I suggest checking out their youtube channel. photos will be forth coming but it will be about a month as the car is still down in FL. it did not cost as much as I expected, but the results were much more than worth it.

Yup, they are the real deal.I was there last monday, I was the norwegian that brought them the Voss water. I never let anyone touch my stereo, but after seeing their videos and how they work, I put my 4runner in their hands, Dean seemed to know exactly what I wanted. It sounds so good, I printed out the wiring schematic, he figured out how to disable party mode without rewiring the stereo. Best thing I ever did stereo wise. it sounds like they put new speakers in there. I took photos of every screen just in case I have the car serviced and they disconnect the battery.
