AAA has changed things around a little, but if you go to their site to their auto loans you can get rates, new or refi. I dropped mine to 2.49% using them, just have to be a AAA member, which I suspect a lot here are.

For you other guys, not everyone can join Pentagon Federal, but, they have a list of like 10 different ways that you can qualify to join for free. Or you can pay a one time fee of like $15 bucks.

Thanks Utah, but the difference between 2.85% and 2.49% is only $4 per month and probably not worth the time, but a good suggestion nonetheless. I may check with my credit unions to see what they're offering as well. Thanks.

Yeah, i know. LOL. $50 a year isn't worth the paperwork!

I'm going to keep searching for rates on my quest to 0.0%!!!!
 
Best interest rate is zero. We have paid cash for everything for a long while since going on the Dave Ramsey program. No car/credit card debt for a long time now.

what I mean is, can you still buy out the whole debt if you want to? or are you locked into the repayment terms. I always try to repay as quickly as I can, some creditors charge early repayment fees to make sure they still make their money in interest on you...

Something to keep in mind is that this method may cost you in the long run. You can accomplish paying not interest, actually very little interest with a nice perk, by getting the largest loan possible and paying it off in full after a few months.

Having a credit report with another $30-50K loan paid in full can lead to future purchases or emergency loans being cheaper and/or maybe even just available.

I always get the reply of, "Well my credit is at 800 anyway." That's nice but if you miss a payment by accident of something or you just can't pay due to life happening, or if your major repayments are in your distant past, this more recent payoff will make you look even better to a home loan provider for example.

Maybe you just want to boost a family member's credit score by adding them on the loan.
 
There's no need for credit in my life anymore. Credit score? Who cares... Everything is cash with emergency reserves available in numerous places.

Which Minneapolis dealer did you get this low percentage rate? I've been told I will NEVER find a financing deal for 4Runners - upsetting since I've never had over 0% through Toyota Financial for ANY of my new vehicles. Thanks!

I got my 2012 LE at 1.99% for 60 through BOA.

That may work for you, but for others it's about more than just not being able to afford the cash payment up front.

If you're a savvy investor, investment banker, or hedge fund manager for instance, why pay cash for a car or house when interest rates are so ridiculously low? You can take that money and invest it. If you're not earning a return higher than the current loan rates, you're not very good at your job. :)

typically the people that say that that are the very ones that end up looking toward the government for a hand out later in life when unforeseen circumstances arise...

I'm with Lineman BTW, and the gubmint has no role in my plan for unforeseen circumstances. AFAIC, they are one.

There is more to credit than that. It affects insurance rates and various other things in life. Plus, if you could be drawing 5% or more off your money invested vs saving 0-3.5% in financing.
