Isn't this old news? The pics in the thread shows a Jeep MUTILATED apparently after hitting the Rubicon. NOT SO TOUGH ARE YA JEEP???!!!! LOL, just kidding. I'd be impressed if it came out unscathed. Nevertheless, I get a kick of seeing the Jeep "killed"...... I guess any "stock" SUV will look like this after hitting the Rubicon.
I sat in the 2011 Jeep at the Philadelphia auto show and was unbelievably unimpressed. Plastiky and small. Then again, it was a Laredo. Couldn't sit in a Limited/Overland (very stupid not to be able to). Whatever: it's an improvement over the outgoing model.

Yes, Toyota put a 5th gen Trail through the Rubicon and it looked pretty much the same. The Jeep guys are quick to point out that the Trail wasn't using the stock tires like the Jeep on the Rubicon. And the 4Runner had sliders installed, yet they still managed to crinkle the rear door.

I'm sure if you put a Hummer through the Rubicon, it will come out smashed. That's cool that the GC can do it, but that is pretty much pointless being that 99% of owners will NEVER go off-road, so the bragging rights of being "Trail-Rated" means nothing to me. Plus Jeep's reputation on reliability. No thank you.
That's because they compete with both the Highlander ad the Pilot, as well as the 4Runner.
Hey, I agree with you completely. I just think it's silly for guys on this forum to laugh at pics of the new Grand Cherokee getting damaged on the Rubicon when the 4Runner would look pretty much the same afterwards. Lets try to keep it real.

I couldn't tell from the pics but did anybody catch if this GC had the "5 piece skid plate" that they talked about on the commercials? I would imagine so....and the real test in my mind isn't how beat up it looks when you finish, it's whether or not it can be driven home and to work the next day! Lots of times on a trail or rock crawl you'll come out with a new dent, ding, or scratch...I would imagine Rubicon would multiply that.
I am a Jeep guy when it comes to off-road. The new grands and other Jeep SUV (not the wrangler)are not good off road vehicles. They are nice grocery getters and can do fine with very mild off roading. I had an older Grand (solid axle) and off road it worked better than my 4Runner but other than a slight advantage I still like the 4Runner much better than the Grand. Neither are really that great for the off roading I do.
For off road I have a Wrangler it is better suited for off-road then my 4Runner or the grand. Early 4Runner with straight axles can be excellent off-road machines.
Most new vehicles aren't that good for off-roading. About the only decent new off-road vehicles are the Wranglers. 4Runners will probably do better than most other SUVs.

I've got an 11 GC in the garage and wifey is very happy with it. (Did you catch that?! :hello
Hemi V8, Leather Interior... It's flipping nice. Would I take it over the Rubicon? hahaha! I wouldn't even bother taking up Ice House Road. As my wife put it, "I love my big gas guzzling Jeep". I do love her so! :guitar3:
I have the GX470 in the spot next to her. (another non-Rubicon SUV) My interior is more plush, rich feeling. Her's is very sporty, black leather, black wood trimmed in silver and chrome accents. Someone said the inside was plastic-y? What do you call a 4Runner then? Shrinky Dinky? Hmmm...

No no, I said Plastiky! I never said the 4Runner wasn't nor did I praise it. I bought mine used (saved about $20K). In what it makes up for in plastic galore, is it's bulletproof pedigree. Anyway, what I sat in was a Laredo, maybe Limited/Overland models are different (in pictures they seem to be). This is the car/Jeep/whatever that is supposed to "win" the world over. I was unimpressed. I've had my share of Jeeps over the years. In all honesty, I'm Glad to hear you guys are happy with it..... really.
Regarding the GX, I've always loved that truck (previous gen), very "Lexus-like". This could be my next SUV.....unless I see another runner I really like.

Ah yeah I read it wrong. I'm not in love with the GC, wifey is and that's all that counts. It's REALLY nice, but yes, the dash reminds me of an aircraft carrier. Huge, and why I'm not sure.
I had a 06 4Runner and really liked it a LOT. Then I got the GX and fell in love. What the 4Runner lacked, the GX had. Admittedly, still getting used to the barn door situation. It's not bad, but not good either.
