I have an 06 SR5 w/105k and no issues and around 5k left on note.I was thinking of getting a 2012,but have heard mixed reveiews on the 2012's.If I keep the 06,I know I have things to do.Any input?.Thanks.

personally i think the 4th gen looks much nicer, not really into the boxy look.

Why not trade it in for an 09 Limited with Low miles :thumb3:
They are both completely different vehicles. My dad has a 2011 Trail, and It doesn't feel like the 4th g at all. The interior is super tight and close to you and it drives more like a car than an SUV. Definitely go drive one before you decide to pull the trigger.

Considering that
1) This is in the 4th Gen section
2) I'm biased about the 4th gen
3) I have not driven the 5th gen (Only 2nd and 4th)
I say stick with the 4th Gen.
As far as looks go, I really like the 4th Gens. They look good from bone stock to heavily modded. The only way I like the 5th Gens are if they are lifted and have A/T tires and aftermarket off-roading type rims.

Since this is another "opinions" thread, I'll offer mine:
I've said it before, but no V8 offering means no 5th gen for me. If the wifey wants a 5th, we'll get her one, but I'm staying with my 4th. Right now we've got no car payments, which is awesome! And payments on a new 5th? I don't even want to imagine.
My advice? Trade for a 2UZ if you don't have one... Drive it till the wheels fall off... then put them back on and keep driving!

My 08 lease is up in July, and I was always thinking that I'll be getting the 5th gen 4runner as my next lease. But every single time I looked at them I couldn't get over it's cheapness
I wasn't every much impressed with test drives either. I don't like the size increase, lack of torsen on trail (and in 09 we had a torsen 4runner with rear locker - WTF Toyota...wtf), super cheap plastic interior, "wire" antenna, no halogen projectors, no LED tail lights, supper crappy plastic over the fenders...the list just goes on and on...
I was never my intent to %**** on the 5th gen 4runner, but personally I hate it. It's $44,000 here in Canada...throw in the tax, freight, and all that other BS (not to mention 5% interest) and it's closer to 60K. There's no way in hell I'm paying that much money for a vehicle that feels like a cheap dodge.

I can't think of a single vehicle that owners of the previous version had good things to say about the new one. I remember all the 3rd gen owners knocking the 4th saying it was too big, too car like, the ugly cladding (ok, they were right about that), etc. I really don't know why people seem to think that newer vehicles are lower quality. We should be driving cars with Yugo quality if that were true by now.
From a financial point of view...that's just plain stupid.
Keep your 06 for another 5 years...then buy a new truck. Keep making payments to yourself during that time and you'll either have enough money to buy a new truck CASH or have a hefty down payment on a new truck.
I started doing that 25 years ago....and I haven't had to take out a car loan since. We keep our vehicles for 10+ years and over 300k miles. Far far far cheaper then buying a new vehicle every 4-6 years.

I run to the Toyota dealer for parts now and then, and every time I drop by I get the same speech from the sales people. Out here they will flat out tell you that if you have ever owned any 4runner before the 5th gen you will not like it, they don't even bother trying to convince you it is better. I asked them why, and they said they are not the same as what previous 4runner owners have come to expect, still reliable just not as aggressive etc.... when I have several sales people tell me the same thing, and mostly negative might want to really think about it and what you want from a vehicle.
also i have gone out with a few 5th gen's. stock 4th with stock 5th gen - wider, heavier, in my opinion less aggressive and agile. I was not impressed, and they were not happy with it either. I am sure they are great for around town but I would say that's about it. And personally I think they are ugly lost that 4runner look and look like a wannabe GMC or something....

yup, good point. I have a V6 myself and it's got about 125,000 KM which is not a lot, about average mileage but to me a 5-6 year old car is still very new, provided it hasnt been abused. The exterior and interior of the car is like new. minor scratches on the body, very minor.
Greatest depreciation is the first 2-4 years, so it would be crazy to sell it.
