Sure does, it is smoke and mirrors.....Don't need crawl control to get out of that.

Although slightly useful in very rare circumstances, these features are greatly oversold.

They were trying to sell drum brakes as an off-road strength in the same video :doh: Could have avoided the stuck by using 4wd to begin with, or airing down at any point, of course they were creating the very specific scenario that Crawl Control is useful.

Crawl Control has actually helped me out a couple of times, but it is incredibly rare, and wouldn't happen to most sane people

If they can back it up with a suitable reference, in this case the owners manual or other documentation, then it's good info. If they won't or can't back it up then just put their post in the virtual circular file cabinet.

Except for the two obvious noobs (me and the OP) asking questions, who exactly is giving out wrong information here? I've found the thread pretty useful, so please set the record straight if I just learned a bunch of bullshit.

Most of the information in this thread is pretty accurate although it did jump from DAC to crawl control....

It's good to know what these features are and how they work. Beyond learning what they do, don't waste your time trying to use them for most real world situations.

The manual is good information... but it can't give you real world experience. So read here and the manual, then go experiment and get some hands on time.

Focus on when to use 4Lo and to hold a gear. Learn how to activate a-trac and the rear locker if equipped. Learn how to go as slow as possible and as fast as necessary (something a computer will never be able to figure out for you). Throttle and brake control is key in all off-roading situations.. automation simply cant do this for you. It can assist (as a-track does by applying brake force to keep all wheels turning), but it cannot properly control the throttle and brakes for most situations.

People either love it or hate crawl control. All I can say is it is personal preference. I know I have used it to run this one section which is very steep, and is on slippery shale. It helps you just walk right down without a problem.

I completely agree with this assessment...great for uphill; annoying for down hill (I probably haven't been in a situation that truly required it).

The only thing I'll add is that on the lowest setting craw control is "pogo-stick like" (or at least that is how I would describe it). The entire truck rocked back and forth every time the brakes were applied and it came to a complete stop. I jerked back and forth pretty violently; this is the main reason I felt it would be worthless down hill. If I ever was on a very steep section I think it would be terrifying, more so than if I modulated the brakes myself.

The next slowest setting worked ok downhill, but it was fast enough that I think I'd also be ok using the brakes myself if I didn't have the system. It was also fast enough that I don't think I'd use it on a technical downhill (a fairly easy or moderate downhill might would be ok).

On the mid to high settings, the system is great as an off road cruise control or for going uphill. For flat stretches of the trail, or easy uphill sections I found it relaxing.

I agree dac and crawl control are awesome have used them many times on snow and ice hills at our cabin in the caribou area of bc and has kept me out of the ditch . you definantly need to know how it all works together then you will see how good it is.

That might be a good use of those features. There is a big difference between off-roading in technical terrain and encountering a slick ice covered maintained road..
