i know on the tacoma shock swap u have to change out the lower bushing on the tacoma shocks to make it work on our lower rear shock mount. its easy to do... im not 100 but i think its the same for the newer fj rear shocks. check my threads for pix

4runner and 07-09 FJ shocks are interchangeable, so that link applies to the 4th gen 4runner as well.

the 4runner and fj are the same 120/150 chassis. everything suspension wise is a direct swap. the same is true with the front of the tacoma. some things like skids and drive train related also work with no modification. so they should work

I just put 2013 Off Road Shocks and Struts on mine. On the rear, all I had to do was make the hole in the frame a little bit larger. Piece of cake.

Shocks are from a 2013fj not an 07/09. In the link you have to shave or grind the bottom of shock to fit in the fj bracket my 07 4runner does not have a bracket only a post that the shock goes over it then the bolt holds it on. I installed them last night and the bottom of the shock needed no modification like the link said. but the top did. I had to install 2 washers under the first steel washer in order to tighten the top nut enough to squeeze the 2 rubber grommets on the top bracket. apparently the top bracket is thinner on the 4runner than on the fj. So I guess I answers my own question. Yes rear shocks from a 2013 fj will fit an 07 4runner with modifications. Side note the shocks I replaced were factory shocks with 210,998 on them. One shock was blown I hit a grand canyon sized pothole last week and it started leaking but the other was worn but still worked. Just goes to show how good Toyota parts are.
