2014 4Runner Fog Light HID Conversion

I've been looking around this forum a lot latetly to get ideas on what mods I'd like to do my 2014 Trail, one of the first thngs I really wanted to do was to convert Low Beams and Fog Lights to 6,000K HIDs same as I had on my last car, I ordered the Kits but the H16 that the manual calls for doesn't really match the H16 that I got, I decided to start this thread to see if we as a forum can come up with something to make it work, I'll be pulling out the fog light assembly just to check if I can make an H11 fit in there ince the H16 seems to be just a smaller H11.

Headlights should be 4300 to 5000K, and fogs should be ~3000K.

Well he did say that he already did it once on a previous car. Apparently he liked the look and wants to do it again. to each his own...

I would take a look at the fog light housing you have to see if there is a glare shield that covers the tip of the bulb. The 2010-2013 fog lights do not have this and will make HIDs be super annoying in the fog light position, not to mention super illegal.

If you find that there are no glare shields, please don't be a jerk on the road and blind everyone

glare can also come from the regular low beams (even if they are projector beams, and even if they have a cutoff/glare shield already). If the projector optics are such that there is any glare from a different bulb type, I would refrain from using them.....

I had 8,000K on my previous car and I loved it, although I had projectors Low Beam and Fog Lights on that one. I decided to go a little lower on this one that's why I went 6,000K. In fact I wanted to go with 5,000K but my supplier couldn't get them and he gives me good service, he does the install and gives me a 2 year warranty. He mentioned that we can try and do some mods and add a prijector to the Fog Lights that way it won't be blinding people. But so far we haven't even been able to fit a bubl in there.

Yea I've never been a fan of putting HIDs in lights not designed for them.

I finally took the Assembly Off and found that H11s will Fit

Ok guys, the whole idea I had when I started this thread was to figure out what type of bulb will fit the Fog Lights of the 2014 4Runner. I don't mean to be rude but whether or not you guys like the color I picked or if they are bright or not wasn't really the topic in here. To the ones that are very concerned about me blinding people I can say this. The Low beams are as bright as my wife's Audi Q5 stock HID's because the 2014 has projectors already for the Low beams they look just like the ones that Jesse1983 has on he's truck (Very Nice Ride BTW Jesse1983) I'll try to take a better picture of my projectors during daylight so you guys can see them better (They aren't blinding at all). The Fog Lights are a little brighter than my low beams, I stood in front of them in the dark and didn't find them blinding, but I only turn them on if it's very dark and there isn't anyone in front of me (I don't live in the US, I live in North Alberta and the highway I drive at nights it isn't a divided highway it is just a very dark road during winter)

Anyways for those interested on replacing their Fog lights, for whatever color of HID or not HID bulbs. I have found the answer which was the whole idea of this thread; I hope someone will find this helpful rather than criticizing what I did to my truck. So I pulled the Fog Assembly light through the fender, just like the manual says you have to if you are replacing your bulbs, and there is a black plastic piece that protects the assembly, this piece is just clipped in there and it will pop out, just be careful when you are doing this since my buddy almost got hurt because there isn't a lot of room to pull. Then there are 2 screws holding the assembly, I took it off just to see it closely and try to figure why the H11s wouldn't fit in there, but ou don't really have to pull the assembly out since the H11s will fit in there, the H11s are a little bit of a bigger bulb and the locking mechanism is a little bit thicker on them, if you push it a little bit harder it will lock in place. If you order H16s like the manual says you will not get the right bulb, and there is not such as thing as a Japanese H16 bulb. Just get H11 and they will fit. Hope this helps.

Here is a pic outside on the parking lot where the lights look just white, again this was taking with a cellphone and is hard to appreciate them in here I'll post a better picture later this week maybe during the weekend when I'm off and I can actually see the sun.

Take a picture of the output on a flat wall. The issue isn't that your lights are too bright, it's that it is most likely not focused properly.

Comparing

Just to compare Stock Vs HIDs I don't really see much of a difference between them. The Fog lights look brighter but the Low beams look pretty much the same, just a diffrent color.

What camera did you use to take those photos? If any of the settings were in auto made then you aren't comparing apples to apples. You either need to have the camera to the exact same settings for both photos or you need to have one of each bulb installed for an accurate comparison.

Edit: Also the photos were taken at different angles.
