If I could get one with the Prado interior and manual, I'd be loving life in about five years. Sadly, that is not the case. The exterior looks nice.
Who would have thought bumpers would become relics of the past so quickly, real bumpers that is.

You turn the knob and it folds the headrest forward and flat, so you can flip the entire seat back down into the groove in the underside of the seat base, when you are trying to fold the 2nd row flat. Holy run-on sentence
Thanks, I don't have that on the 2010. Mine don't need to fold so I wasn't sure.

Fiona, it is so funny you say this. When I read your post yesterday, I understood it, but I didn't really see it . . . I almost posted you might consider the fog lights to be "dimples".
Then, a few minutes later my 3 year old daughter came over (she loves trucks and is the joy of my life). She was very excited to see the 2014 we have been waiting on before making our TE purchase decision. I asked her, "do you like it?" She said YES! But then she hesitated and said, "ahhh, why is she so sad?" I asked . . . "why, what do you mean?" She said, "she's crying" as she pointed to the two round fog lights under the headlights . . . and then I got it. Now, everytime I look at the front end I now see it too--what has been described as "gills" under the headlights look like tear streaks (I mean that "gill" goes all the way up to the corner of the "eye" (corner of headlight)) . . . with the foglight being the tear drop. I can only hope Toyota modifies this a bit before the actual realease, bkz I don't want to be driving a "sad" truck!
Clearly Toyota mistakenly never got the female perspective on this.
That is so funny your daughter thought it looked "sad" too! Glad I am not the only one that sees it! My current 4Runner definitely looks a lot happier! lol!
I also noticed that someone said it had "scars" under its eyes. That's not a happy thought either!I am seeing the refreshed look being compared to the Pontiac Aztec on other various articles on the inter webs! :jaw drop: Maybe if Walter White needed a new car, he would consider a 4Runner...
According to some press I've read, the drivetrain is the same as before. 4.0 liter V6, 5speed auto only. I doubt they will ever put a manual trans back into the 4Runner. There was a 4 cylinder in the first year of the 5th gen, but it was discontinued.
I think this restyle looks better inside and out, then the '10-'13 version.

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the look either, but it might grown on me.
And BTW- What happened to all the discussion recently about how the '14 was going to be unibody, smaller, more like a Highlander etc. and how Toyota was delaying the '14 intro as long as possible because everyone was unhappy with the complete new redesign?!?! This looks like the same ol', same ol' to me- except for the front end.
Was that all just rumor or did I miss something!?!?!?

First, I don't get why people complain about toyota being too "vanilla", then they complain when Toyota is too wild. I think I know what toyota is doing here. They want to go after the folks who want to make a statement, not just have a family SUV...the people that are buying 4-door JKs and modding the hell out of them. I personally think the 5.5gen is pretty cool and I think it'll look REALLY badass with a lift, etc.
As far as the unibody discussion, I don't think anyone thought Toyota was going with a total redesign (unibody or otherwise) after only 4 years of the 5th gen. The are several threads that discuss what the 6th gen may be like....or start as a 5th gen mid-cycle refresh thread and deteriorate to that. I PRAY the 6th gen will not sell-out and become a crossover, but it's possible given new CAFE standards (54mpg average by 2025), and the current market.

That is one of only a few upsides the 2014 has in my opinion.
The front is a freakin' deal-breaker.

Because consumers complain about anything and everything, no matter what side of the argument it falls on imo lol.
Toyota was smart about the interior features, knowing how fickle consumers can be that will trade in a split second for a different gauge style/color lighting or an extra button or trim panel color as well as attract new consumers. They eat that s**t up.
As far as the outside goes, they will attract new consumers who skipped over the '10-'13 years and maybe convert a percentage of current 5th gen owners to trade up while some will skip over the refresh and wait for the next generation.
And around and around it goes...

The mid-cycle refresh in my opinion looks very nice and I really like it. The front end looks amazing and the interior even better than that. Toyota did a nice job with car and I cannot wait to get back into one. I sold my 3rd gen about three years ago and I still miss it. The front end looks weird now because the color is red, wait until the neutral colors are revealed and I'm pretty sure everything will look fine.
I think it's sort of like upgrading your smart phone... People end up as 4Runner drivers at different times and they upgrade on different schedules. I ended up a iPhone 4S, which had me skipping the 5 and waiting for the 5S. Based on the insane cost to upgrade outside of subsidy it would take a lot to get me to make the move.
Unless I'm in a 4th Gen 4Runner or new to the 4Runner, I would pass over this upgrade and wait and see what the 6th Gen offers... I could see people switching in the instance that they determine they would prefer a different trim SR5, Trail, or Limited... but why trade when the powertrain is 100% the same?
It would take a few more goodies than just upgraded exterior interior to get me to make the move.
