From what I can see, the 2014 is only really getting negative feedback from this forum. Everyone else seems to love it.

ummm....I'm not too sure about that. Most of these below HATE it. Personally, I really like it! I think it's modern, aggressive, and ripe for aftermarket options. Time will tell I guess...

Judging by the commenters at auto blog and motor trend is disingenuous at best. Those people hate everything that isn't their pet brand (usually Ford, GM, or something German). The only way the 5th gen would please them is cancellation.
The only thing that matters is if your target market likes them. I think the FJ guys are probably going to like it... especially when they no longer have an FJ to buy.

And then, of course, you have many current 5th gen owners on the fence trying desperately to convince themselves that they don't like it so they still feel satisfied with their current ride and monthly payment.
But you know eventually this new refreshed look will appear in a great color and/or someone will mod it to look undeniably outstanding and they'll get that sick feeling in their loins.

I agree. The new front look at first was hard to understand and a little unpleasing on the eye but its already grown on me. I think this re-fresh will sell really well. Toyota know what there doing, they are after all the largest car manufacture in the world. Toyota sold 9.75 million cars and trucks here in the USA alone last year. They do their re-search, they know what there doing.
Im personally imagining what you could do to that front grill. A little bit of creativity and I think it could look awesome! Its amazing what a lift and new tires can do. After all the most important part is the underneath of the truck, thankfully it appears to have stayed the same.

And that's not even counting the 5th gen owners who have to have the latest and will trade up regardless. Same psychology as needing the latest smartphone/gadget.
There's already posts about retrofitting the new front end/rear tail lights so their truck doesn't appear old lol.

This says everything. Didn't like the look of the 01 Tacomas when they came out, but I've had one since. Didn't like the styling of the 4th gen, but we came very close to owning one. Really didn't like the looks of the 5th, but now we own one. The key is what you can do with it and how it can be used. And with very little changes, this will be used in Moab and CO trails (and enjoy absolute comfort on the way there and back). The most important aspect for me, it's a Toyota, it's functional, I'll wheel with wonderful Toyota owners... and avoid the heep crowd!

This new design is growing on me a bit, its not as bad as I initially thought last weekend.
I really think that the black and dark gray ones are going to look so much better. less contrast on the front.
cant wait to see it, although the last thing I need is more temptation to upgrade. Hope I can hold out until at least 2017-18

I am in the market to buy another 4 runner. As a matter of fact I told my salesman to hold the phone on proceeding on the deal we are working out on a 2013 SR5 until i see the 2014 refresh! He didn't even know about the refresh being unveiled this past weekend. After he saw it for himself he called me yhis week to check in and see what I thought? I said I like it all but the front end! I am going to stick with the 2013, he laughed and agreed and made a joke the the price just went up!! Ha

From the pictures it looks like the Trail edition will finally get the running boards that the Canadian Trail edition's came with since 2010.
I know a lot of people ditch running boards for sliders, but there are some people out there who like them. The factory Canadian running boards are SO much nicer than the Genuine Toyota accessory ones sold here in the US.
My opinion on the new redesign is mixed... I will wait to pass judgement until I see it in person.
I'm 100% happy that they moved the USB port from the glove box to the dash.
I like LED taillights, but I'm not a fan of the chrome/altezza style. Again, I'm hoping they look good in person.
Antenna delete is nice.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new gauge cluster. The 2010-2013 SR5 cluster needed an upgrade, but I really like the 2010-2013 TE/LE optitron gauges.
I wish there is a little more to distinguish the SR5 from the TE other than the hood scoop. I guess they are going back to the 1999-2002 SR5 and Sport/Highlander. Very little difference other than the scoop.
Other than the mushy throttle response on my 2010, I'm pretty happy with the hardware.
And finally, I'm not happy that they did away with Shoreline Blue. I've gotten more compliments on this color than any other car/color I've ever driven.

However that current 5th gen owner will stop and say, "hmmm but wait a minute you mean mechanically it is 100% the same as what I'm driving now... I suddenly am overcome by the pride of not falling for a cosmetic facelift!"
I will admit there are certain things about the refresh I really like, but the simple fact that they made zero mechanical changes to the drivetrain means there will be no sick feeling in these loins.
