2014 driver-side A-pillar trim removal

Hi all,

I mounted a scangauge with a blendmount on the rearview mirror of my 2014 SR5.

This required removing the driver-side A-pillar trim to run the cat5 cable. I looked at the 2010 service manual, but I think the 2014 is different, so thought I would document what I did. My 2014 A-pillar trim was attached with 1 10mm bolt, 1 claw, and 1 clip.

1. Pry open the bolt cover with a small flat-blade screwdriver. The cover is labeled "SRS curtain airbag". Remove the 10mm bolt. See first 2 pictures below.

2. Pull gently from the top, detaching the clip above the bolt, then the claw below the bolt. See third picture.

That's it. It is not tethered and comes completely out.

There is plenty of room in the A-pillar wire channel for the cat5 cable. I brought the cable along the headliner, down the channel, along the bottom of the pillar, then behind the front door weatherstrip down to the side kick panel. FWIW, I used the blendmount cat5 cable and coiled the scangauge cable against the firewall, so I can remove the scangauge and cable and use it in another vehicle.

Thanks for the pictures - there's an old thread about whether supports exist behind the driver side a-pillar trim for a possible grab handle retrofit. It's hard to tell from your pictures, but I can see a few holes where 10mm bolts could go. Was there a threaded hole below the "clip" label in your picture that you noticed?

I didn't see a second threaded bolt hole on the driver-side A-pillar near the clip.

The bolt behind the driver-side airbag cover is 3.75" below the top of the trim piece. The top of the passenger grab handle is the same 3.75" and the bottom of the passenger grab handle is 7" below the top bolt. On the driver-side pillar, the clip is 7" down from the bolt.

Hi Bill this really helped me I had a 13 and I just got a new 15 and it's different it looks like it's made to be popped out to have access to that panel. I thought mine was defective and I was really disappointed and I was going to swap my one from my 13 on my 15 and I just stumbled across your post and you really save me thank you

I imagine they are not too securely mounted (i.e. just mounted to the trim pane probably) as the A-pillar trim is designed to rupture in a controlled manner for the side curtain air bags.

A Pillar cover removal

Thanks for the write up. I just installed a dash cam and needed to know how to remove the A Pillar cover so I could run the power wire. This helped me figure it out without damaging the cover.

I keep coming across this post for removing the a pillar trim. I've searched and cant find a thread for removing it with the the clips associated with it.

I remove the bolt, and cant pull the piece out. I've tugged and pulled. I'm not trying to break the clips but they really don't come out. Just tug harder? Break the clips and say f It?
