2014 Limited weird Tranny problem

There is a gradual hill on the highway that I travel on daily, typically I am accelerating up the hill toward the speed limit, 65pmh.

As I crest the long gradual hill (nothing real steep) and the 4runner should shift into 5th, it stays in 4th gear, pegged at like 3000 for an extended period of time, enough for me to always notice, the shift into 5th gear finally comes long after it should, so I drive a good distance in 4th gear at high RPM. It doesnt seem normal at all.

The 4runner is new, 6500 miles.

Anybody else experience these 5th gens staying in 4th gear for a lot longer than they should?

thanks for the response, I've driven enough Toyota auotmatic's just to notice it wants to stay in 4th gear a lot longer than most. I know this tranny is calibrated differently than any I've driven before. I guess we're dealing with a square high profile vehicle that is very heavy, and that's probably why the tranny shift point is how it is.

Never thought about shifting it manually good call.

It interprets that you are going up a hill by the increased throttle (pushing harder on the gas), and the fact that the speedometer is going lower, so it needs a higher engine load. Once you get over the hill, the computer has to re-interpret that you aren't on the hill anymore, and it is safe to shift back up. My mom's FJ does it all the time in NC.
