Front license plate? You mean drilling into the front bumper for no good reason other than to hang a flat piece of metal? Don't do it

No disrespect, but it's a 4Runner, not a Lambroghini. I get that people's tastes are different and if you don't want holes in you bumper that's fine. But it won't devalue your vehicle.

Funny you mention this... there was a bill in Maryland last year to discontinue use of the front plate. It didn't pass... but it would have saved the state over $500,000 a year! No wonder they nickel and dime us with tolls!

In some states in the license plate law it says if the vehicle is designed without a front plate mount, the individual does not have to mount the plate.

Ah ok my mistake, I forgot they were 4runners and not Lamborghinis.
4runner owners go ahead and drill holes in your bumpers it won't devalue your vehicle at all, but please don't do it to your Lamborghini!

Here in Colorado it's a great reason to get pulled over and you will get a ticket for it and you will be putting a front plate on if that happens.

Texas is similar in that if the vehicle was manufactured without a front plate option (Corvette's for example), then you are not required by law to have a front plate.
My '16 T4RTE didn't come with any mounting options for a front plate, so I've just left it off and installed only the rear one.

My recent experience with Victoria PD negates my statement. Apparently it doesn't matter if the vehicle was not made for a front plate, they are required in Texas. This was the first cop in the 4 years since I've owned my T4R to care enough to pull me over specifically because of a missing front plate. On the remainder of my trip back to my home town, I counted no less than 50 other cars that didn't have front plates that were sporting rear Texas plates. Guess it's up to how much the cop wants to harass you as to whether or not they pull you over for it.

I'm just saying it's a common, normal, everyday vehicle no matter how much we all love ours and any prospective buyer would not pay less because the bumper is drilled for a plate. I am not insulting anyone who doesn't want to drill their bumper.

Just an FYI to those of you using zip ties to attach things; like the license plate bracket mentioned earlier. Zip ties will deteriorate over time due to hot / cold temp variation, vibration and UV exposure. They will become brittle and fracture easily.
I suggest they be changed out occasionally or use something like safety wire instead.

I've had experience with this...
I had my license plates stolen off my Jeep a year or so ago. They ended up ripping out the front mounting bracket to get the plate. Nine months later I still hadn't replaced the bracket, and I end up getting pulled over by Denver PD for not having a front plate.
I was polite and explained the situation to the officer. He was really nice about it, told me that I needed to get it fixed, gave me his business card and let me go on my way.

I got a ticket for this recently, may have posted it in the "what did you do today" thread. I have a plate winch bumper so jb welded some neodymium magnets to my plate and slapped it on.
Honestly, this is a great excuse to throw a hidden winch on . Go with a roller fairlead (they make them for synthetic too) and use some clamps mounted to the plate.. guys used to use maglight clamps but I have no personal experience there.
Otherwise, 3M makes some super heavy duty Velcro that I've used extensively. With enough surface area that could work well.

Bought my TRD Pro from Michigan where they do not require a front licence plate so they did not drill the front bumper. The car will be registered in Illinois where I will need to display a front plate so I took the advice from this thread and purchased the O'Reilly Auto Parts plate bracket to zip-tie it in front of the radiator. After mulling over the new location, it looks really odd in this location. I hate to say it but I may attach the factory bracket and drill the bumper!

This will definitely affect airflow into the radiator, but I'm wondering if it's enough to cause any issues.

I've been running mine in the grill off to the side and haven't noticed any issues with the high 90's days we've had recently. I really don't want to drill my bumper and due to living in a tiny town I have to run a plate or I will get harassed for no plate and ticketed...
I have a front plate mount even though I live in Florida where a front plate is not required. I bought my 4r in Virginia, it was not even delivered yet and still listed as being in NJ or something, and I told them not to put a front plate mount on it, but they ended up doing it anyway, it was dropped off at the dealer that way.

I got a '15 SR5 premium a few weeks ago, and ordered the OEM front plate bracket from TRD Shop. It didn't come with any hardware, so I checked with my local dealer to see how much they'd charge me to put it on, and said it would be $19. So, I figured I'd let the "pros" handle it.
I took it today, and they told me that they couldn't install it without the hardware (they said that the hardware they have for the newer models, the screws aren't long enough).
Any suggestions? I've seen folks mention using self-tapping screws, but am not sure exactly what to go with.
Appreciate any help/suggestions!
