2015 4Runner TRD- Stock Brakes Poor

I have not swapped rotors or pads yet since my 4runner only has 11k miles its still new lol

I had heard pads and rotors make a big difference (non oem) but that doesnt seem to be an overwhelming community consensus, so I figured I'd ask. I plan to swap pads and rotors but I am undecided on the lines. My truck is 9 yrs old so new lines wouldn't hurt.

just search 5th gen extended brake lines and you will come up with at least 10 websites selling them. you can get them in stock length and various extra long lengths

I just replaced my front brake hoses with ToyTech Brake lines. will fix the mushy brake pedal

Stops faster than a Range Rover Supercharged. I'd say the brakes are at least "good". Pedal feel is not. That's a software issue that you won't solve easily. The brake pressure and pedal feel is determined by electronics. Maybe we need a pedal booster for the brakes too?

The reason is that if you actually spend time off road - you want the brakes exactly as they are tuned. If you don't - the tuning that gives you very good modulation at low speeds means they don't feel like a sports car on the road.

The power is there, but the modulation is crap....worst ''feel'' of any vehicle I own. The progression is wrong and I went to Akebono pads and the pedal is firmer. Strangely, Akebono IS the OEM manufacturer but the compound must be different on the pads they sell to the public.

Apologies, I tried to describe the issue but the term "shuddering" I used may have thrown readers to conclude it was a warped rotor. It is not related to the rotors, I am super familiar with rotor issues and have been replacing and working on all my cars brakes since the 1980's.

The issue I have ( and it is true of 4 Runners I have rented on trips) is when the brakes are applied firmly at speed they are "grabby" ( better term?) . Frankly , its a bit disconcerting . The brakes stop the vehicle in a straight line , so the effectiveness of the brakes seem fine. But that "grabbiness" is just weird. Almost a sense of a loss of control for a brief moment. Now maybe it is the ABS kicking in or something. That said, I have owned ABS equipped vehicles since 1990 ( Volvos; Toyotas; Corvettes). Perhaps as another reader commented, the TRD braking system is tuned for "offroad" and the compromise on the road is what I am feeling?

Frankly , my old 2002 Sequoia has a better braking system than my 2015 TRD . Again, I have noticed exactly the same issue on two other non TRD 4Runners that I have rented .

Not sure whether I am using the right term to describe the issue and maye it is just the brakes are too effective. I am pretty certain it is a engineering/design related issue specific to the 4Runner ( and maybe all newer Toyotas?).
