These things have like 8 recalls attached plus this one... And that trans that will never work right.

I'd drive it into the river and get a different rig.

This just reminds me I need to actually create an SRS off circuit for my 4th Gen (I have a spare RSCA Off switch sitting about, but the damn things are Normally Open! :doh: )

That's just a dangerous scenario. I don't know what the engineers figured would set the airbags off but I imagine any time one unexpectedly goes off is never a good time.

I remember reading a 4Wheeler article where an Xterra popped its pillows during a competive review. From the stories I've heard, the vehicles are not actually rolling over, so not sure how the side airbags are actually helping you if there's no impact?

When did Toyota remove the manual lockout from the 4Runner?

The number of recalls on these things is crazy. I work at a Chrysler dealership and we have about 15 2013+ Grand Cherokees in our used car lot because people trade them in like crazy.

While your at it, might as well mention that 2014 Toyota Tundra Crew Max and double cabs have recalls for airbags in over 130,000 vehicles.

I had mine done a couple weeks ago.

Years ago, a neighbor's brand new Titan popped out all the airbags the first time he drove it in the dirt. It was a very mild dirt trail at that. I was outside working on another vehicle of mine when I seen him and his son leave. Minutes later, then drove back to their house, minus a few windows and every bag popped out. His son had cuts from all the shattered glass, he had cuts and a broken arm from it. Last I heard, Nissan gave him a new Titan. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't give him some compensation as well. It was weird with his truck because every bag inflated, both curtains and front air bags.

Seems to be a lot of issues with airbags lately though.

When I bought my 2014 Trail in June last year, I asked the sales rep where the button went to. He told me they got rid of it, and sure enough, there's no more button on the 2014+ models. I'm not sure exactly what the fix/change entails, but perhaps they went the software route as well.

I didn't see that when I perused CNN. Did they find interference an how long did they take to fix?

Who cares about the airbag recall. Jeep has bigger problems. Their transmissions are garage, as are their electrical systems (google it). Lots of youtube videos on new junk JCs, it's incredible that people continue to buy them.

Honestly I'm surprised more "accident prevention" systems aren't having issues on other vehicles. I imagine Mazda, Mercedes, and others are having somewhat similar bugs since they also use "preventative braking" systems.

Moral of the story? The more you want your car to drive for you, the less control you have when the car gets confused and/or just wants to kill you.

Most people are such shitty drivers that they wouldn't/couldn't be able to recover from a pants-browning road situation without driving aides, so it's better than nothing.
