2015 Limited Ride Improvement

Since you already own the Limited with the 20's I think you should drive a SR5 with 17's and see if it feels better. My guess is it will. I think alot of Limited owners have done this swap. I know it works on other cars to soften the ride. Lets hear from more owners who went to 17's. My SR5 rides heavenly I wouldnt change a thing. I dont know though I havent ever even driven a Limited.

Wanted to share my experience with a 2011 Limited. I rode the stock 20's for about 8K. I remember while turning into parking lots from the street, I could hear them chirp and sometimes feel the truck slip depending on how hard I had to brake. Switched out to 17's with some aggressive AT's for the next 45K. Smoother ride and the tires don't do what they did in the stock 20's. Also, it absorbs the impact of pot holes a lot better.

As for the xreas, it served me well. Didn't have the funds for a proper lift till now. I agree, for most , the xreas is nice and more than sufficient for >95% of regular drivers. I want to upgrade and am going to King OEM performance. Overkill? Probably, but I'd rather go all out then do bilsteins, which to me is a downgrade from the xreas. Lastly, a body on frame (4runner) is not going to feel the same as a unibody or crossover (Rav4/highlander). Hope this helps.

For me Terra Grapplers were the way to go on the 20" rims. The ride feels much more planted and the steering more weighted. There was a drop in MGP say 10-15% - but well worth it.

If you fly up to Denver, you can drive mine.

Most constructive to-date. So do you find it rides more SUV like now? Honestly like the look but getting used to ride. Sold 2008 Infiniti QX56 and trying to duplicate experience. Why did I buy a 4Runner then? Well, lifestyle change and no longer need big SUV but like the size of of the 4Runner "edgy" feel. This is for my wife...

You still need to define what you mean by "improved". As several people have pointed out a few replies back, that mean different things to different people.

Do you want it Softer? Better handling? Less bounce? Less nose dive in braking? Able to climb big boulders?

SUV type of ride is not a definition and not a damn soul will be able to advise you when you are so vague and ambiguous. Neither is comparing it to another SUV. Tell us if you want it stiffer or better cornering or flatter or a plusher ride or something at least that has a definition.
Right now you might as well say you want your 4Runner to be like blue. Or red.

Spot on. This is my first SUV so I have nothing to compare to. I did test drive the highlander and it felt like I was driving a camry. To me, the 4runner is a true SUV and I grew to appreciate this is the trade off for the capable vehicle that it is. Don't know what the QX is built on (unibody vs body-on-frame) because that would be comparing apples to oranges. But from what I hear, the 4runner isn't going to have as much recall/repairs as the QX did. For your wife, changing the yokohamas (I am assume is the stock tire) to a better tire and losing about 1 mpg may be your best (and cheapest) bet.

Perhaps OP is not familiar with what terms like body roll, oversteer, and plush mean in terms of handling. Heck I still mix up oversteer and under steer sometimes, not that it's saying much given my "just enough to be dangerous" level of knowledge. Oh and I like silver myself. :zoom:

The 4runner is one of the last SUVs that "Rides Like A SUV". True SUVs should ride like a truck. Everything else out there is a CUV or Crossover masquerading as a SUV (Unibody, IRS, AWD) Those are designed to ride like a car.

What are you really looking for?

Something that will soak up bumps, will also have body roll and suck on twisty roads.

Something that can handle twisty roads, won't soak up the bumps as well.

There are many options in between these two extremes, but it will be hard to recommend anything unless you are very clear about what you want.

I currently drive an sr5 and test drove a limited and I thought it was a night and day improvement in how it felt. With that being said, as others have said it a body on frame vehicle so you'll never get the cuv feel. Maybe getting did of the 20s and getting something smaller may improve the ride. GL!

+1 on the wheel upgrade (or is it a downgrade?)

I have a 2014 LE and rode the 20" wheels for about 3K. I thought the ride was a bit rough but meh...I could live with it. I changed to 18" LE wheels mainly because I do beach driving and the 20" narrow sidewall does not have much room for airing down. I did not make the change due to the pavement ride quality.

Now, I have the 18" wheels with 265/65/18 Michelin LTX A/T2 and as a result the ride is less firm (or soggier as someone put it haha). I definitely like it better than the ride with the 20s. It's not a crossover feel and it should never be that, but it did change.

Also, you can sell your 20" wheels and tires on CL or eBay for some very decent change.

You could ditch the super expensive Limited's stock suspension for Fox 2.0 IFP front coilovers with the matching Fox 2.0 rear shocks using stock springs.

When my 2015 LE's warranty has expired, and my shocks are shot, that is what I would be getting.

Op, why did you buy the truck if you or your wife don't like the ride? Did you drive it? May be best to sell it for another vehicle rather than "hoping" any change you make to it will suffice.

Wait. You want to replicate ride of QX56? So, you're asking to replicate the ride of a palliative Nissan Armada, which is replicating the ride of the palliative F-Alpha platform on the Nissan Titan? Do you need care?

Perhaps you should have bought an Xterra, or a QX80, which is the grown up version of the QX56, and delivers the plusher old timer's ride you so desire. Personally, I would never touch the LE's suspension, and I say so from experience, evidenced by this pic of my driveway just now:

Looking to improve the ride 2015 Limited 4Runner aside from lowering tire pressure. My wife loves the vehicle but will be driving 90% of time on pavement and we'll take for trips on highway. How best can I mimmic more of a SUV feel without buying Highlander or Sequioa?

I'm considering installation of Bilstien 5100 shocks as I'm told by friends 'for sure' will make an improvement. Ideas?

If the ride of the LE isn't soft/plush/absorbent enough for you, you may have bought the wrong vehicle. About the only reasonable thing you can do is wheels/tires as suggested. Perhaps go drive a GX/LX, ML/GL before you put money into the 4R.

You've never said: Does your wife dislike it? Or is this about your taste?
