Hey Guys,

Feel free to move my post if I posted it in the wrong spot, etc. I know there is already a pricing thread but I wanted to ask this as its own thread. I emailed about 6 or so local dealerships asking about a new 4Runner. I live in Dallas, and so here is what I asked for.
-SR5 Base
-4x2
-without 3rd Row
-Graphite Interior
-White/Gray Exterior

First off the dealerships called my house. I find this very UNPROFESSIONAL!! I inquired via email and informed them directly that I want to business online and not to call me. Anyways, the price they offered me is about 32,957 before TTL. How do I negotiate more since the 2016 is about to arrive? Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
MEB

They're calling you because they want your business. The want to be the dealer you come see.

What is MSRP for this configuration? Try searching for the invoice price of the car. Search at Edmunds.com, cars.com or truecar.com for a list of invoice prices for this vehicle. I forget where I found the invoice price but it is out there.

The online search is a good way to shop. Several dealers will be vying for your purchase and you can negotiate a lower price with them. But you need to have found a lower price, below MSRP, before you ask.

If you're a member of AAA you can get close to invoice price from several dealers in your area. If you're a member of Costco you can get a few hundred dollars off of invoice, but the number of dealers will be fewer.

Use Edmund's Price Promise tool.

1) Fill in the trim and options you want and they will provide you with the price and the certificate that includes the VIN number to the T4R in stock.

2) Forward the lowest certificate to all the dealers to see if they can beat the price or throw in some options.

Here is the link. I would personally use a bogus phone number to prevent the dealers from calling me.

Here, I did it for you: Walk in to any dealership with this photo and you won't pay a dime more. Most dealerships will at least meet Truecar, if not do better:

My very limited experience is this:

1) When I was shopping, dealers were charging roughly the same price for the previous year's model as the current year. The 4runner would appear to be one of the few exceptions to the rule that they always want to clear the lot for the new model. This may be because:

2) All 4runners will sell. They make as many as they need, the market isn't flooded, the dealer knows that it will sell, so they'll gladly sell it to whoever meets their price.

That may change when the new year is a new generation, of course.

Hello, this is Keith Dipshit calling from Buttshart Toyota and Scion.

We value your business and are just calling back about a visit to our dealership two days ago.

We want to know if you found the vehicle you were looking for and if there is anything we can do to earn your business.

This, two times a day for two weeks.

I emailed dealers and got form replies. Also unreturned phone calls when I did call after asking for quotes etc. It was useless. They all said come in so finally thats what I had to do but I didnt use any of the internet worthless salespeople. I used the first guy who jumped me in the lot and asked to sit down with him and his sales manager and pounded out the deal. Without the salesmanager your wasting your time. They let me walk over $500 but called me an hr later and told me they would do it.

If they called you at home you gave them your number, not?

The >>FAIL is on you. Own it.

They are trying to help you get what you want.

P.S. - If you want a 2 wheel drive 4Runner buy a mini-van. 2 wheel drive defeats the whole premise of the 4Runner. O/wise they would call it a 2Runner.

Absolutely!! What he said! It is simply not possible for a human to prefer to drive a 4Runner, but not enjoy beating the heck out of it by taking it off any kind of road to see how close you can become to a) risking your life or b) getting stuck. If you don't have it in your nature to do either of those, you absolutely must enjoy driving a mini-van more. :hiding:
