Hello, I'm new to this forum but have found it a great source of info. I'm hoping to get some advice on how to find a 2014 SR5 Premium with a third row (I have 2 kids - 5 and 7) preferably in black or mag grey. Cars.com and auto trader show very few models available. Is my best strategy to (i) wait for more 2015s to hit the dealers (ii) email dealers in regions where that option is offered (I'm in PA but on Toyota.com can't choose to build w/third row) or (iii) ask a dealer to order one. I'm guessing I'll get creamed on the price if I ask a dealer to order it? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks!

Thanks Stifler...I did call several dealers...some said they would look and then take a deposit (I assume if we agree a price) to get get the vehicle. One dealer (Conicelli in Philadelphia) wanted a non-refundable deposit to START looking! In any case it feels like I'm losing any haggle power once I've given them a wish list (i.e., premium w/3rd row). I guess I can let several look and see who I can negotiate the best price out of but they won't all come back at the same time.

This may help you locate something, and help you understand what options are sold where. Many forum members go outside their sales region for options/pricing.
Determining Your Region for Toyota Deals
Toyota divides the country into 12 regions, offering different deals in each. The territories are listed below. As you research your purchase, keep in mind that you’re not limited to the region you live in.
If there is a significantly better deal available in another region, it might be worth the trouble to travel and buy there. If someone offered you a few thousand dollars to drive to a nearby state and back, you might very well take the deal -- why not make the same drive to save that money on a new car? Once you know your region, make sure you check out the Best Toyota deals available to you.

First time for a new car? That's great! My one suggestion would be to get your financing in order before you negotiate with dealers. Talk to your credit union or bank first, so that you have "virtual" cash in hand. Dealers are much more responsive and, often, more respectful of your wishes. And you can approach the new car price and any trade-in as separate transactions. (Or maybe you have you have cash in hand already. If so, good for you!)

Thanks [MENTION=101428]Bilbo[/MENTION] - I did get the loan approved from usaa and one of the dealers which is looking was a usaa dealer-although the true car price seems to have inched up to $37,497 which seems high esp given info here. Will do my best with the haggle. Thanks again everyone.

I ordered a '15 SR5 Premium with 3rd row from a dealer in Chicqgo and basically got the third row for free. I paid $34,4XX for my 4R. Just be upfront with what you want and what you are willing to pay. I emailed 5 different dealers in Illinois and no one was willing to even offer a counter offer. If you are willing to drive it back from Chicago, I'll give you my dealer and sales guy's name.

The wife's Limited came with a third row seat. She wanted to leave it in while I said it'd be a waste of space (I run my trucks with the back seats folded down).
I told her that she should sit back there while I ran some errands (she's 5' tall and weighs a bit under 95 pounds) and we drove around on regular surface streets in Florida on a 85 degree winter day.
I unbolted and removed the seats that afternoon.

I just got one a few weeks ago.
Step 1: Figure out what interior/exterior color, model(SR5P 2WD or SR5P 4x4), options(obviously [TI] 3rd row seat) you want. The less you want, the more likely you can get a match. Yet, a lot of them comes with Rigid Running board. (toyota.com is a good place to start)
Step 2: Go to truecar.com (actually you can look up the above via truecar.com too); put in what you want and your ZIP, get an idea of the "bottomline" price
Step 3: Now try other ZIP codes around you, up to a distance you are willing to travel (I am in San Diego, but after trying out like a dozen of ZIP, I found that either Torrance, 70miles NW of me OR Riverside, 100miles NE of me have dealers who offer as much as $1000 less)
Step 4: Contact those dealers via Truecar, and the dealership's internet sales/fleet people will contact you. MOST of the time, they will NOT have that car you want, they will either try to sell you something they have, or they will try to offer to bring in a car in their region
Step 5: Negotiate the best price, no point/need to go "test drive", come on....
Step 6: BEST, is to have them look at what is "incoming" from Japan, and then put your name/deposit on one that is EXACTLY what you want, at the exact price you are willing to pay, and then wait for it
Step 7: When the car come in, go to the dealer ship, and just pick it up

When I was looking for mine, there were only 3 on the West Coast, 2 the color I would accept.
If you are working with a dealer, and they will not help, go to a competing dealer, explain to them that dealer X was going to get (your specific criteria) in the T4R you wanted, but you didn't feel comfortable with them, and wanted to give the new dealer a chance. They will be ever so happy to step on the other dealers toes and steal a deal. Let them do the work for you. It took nearly 2 weeks to get my SR5-P to my dealer.. 1 week of that was dealer trade negotiations. This was not fun, but it eventually happened. It isn't easy to get right now, but will eventually be worth it!

Would guess it is a regional thing.
Around here, Limited is the more common trim on the dealers lot.
Have been looking for a Trail, so have keeping a look at 12 dealers inventories here in Michigan. As of tonight dealers they show :
SR5 - 7
Trail - 2
SR5-P - 4
TEP - 3
Limited - 15
One of the dealers has four different Runners, 3 of which have the 3rd row, the rest do not show details.

You guys are lucky! Getting any T4R on the West Coast is very difficult right now.
