2016 4runner Changes

My dealer just emailed me with this info below so you guys know! Looks like minor upgrades and changes....color...etc..

2016 4Runner news came out and nothing changed to the one you want.

Changes are:

-They got rid of the base model so now the Upgrade package is the base.
-They got rid of the sliding cargo tray in the Trail
-You cannot get black interior in the Barcelona Red Limited. It is now a beige interior.
-You can now get Nautical blue Limited with beige interior.

No important changes that I can see.

Looks like the 2017 model year will be the full redesign....now I have to see if I want to grab one soon or wait......

Oh and no official pricing has been released yet according to my dealer here but most likely will be around the same if not more.
 
you cant go wrong with a 4runner, whether this year or next year or the year after.

its your money, you decide whether you want to buy one.

I bought a 2015 because there aren't enough changes to make me wait for the 2016. I also got an excellent deal on my truck because it was an in stock vehicle and didn't have to be ordered.

Does anybody understand this one? Isn't the SR5 the "base model?" No way they would drop that.... Sounds like dealer-speak for "I'll tell you what you can get."

No worries at all! I have been doing research every day trying to find more info and emailed every dealer here to let me know asap if they find out anything on the 2016 changes. :) Now I just wish I could see spy shots on the 6th gen 4runner!!! Some of the fake pics out there are hilarious.

Yeah I am getting pricing soon on a 2015 Limited model here to see what kind of deal I can swing.....or wait for a 2016 model for September they are saying I would get it....so wait a couple months or buy a 2015? depends on the price difference.

I got news today on the 2016 4Runner.

I just recently ordered a 2015 T4R Trail Edition w/KDSS and NAV. I ordered it without the Premium leather-like upholstery, sunroof, cargo tray or any other accessories. Toyota in Japan has not confirmed the order to my local dealer with an invoice and guarantee of delivery, but they expect that to come very soon. I may be 8 to 10 weeks away from delivery.

In an attempt to honor my original request for a TE with Entune Audio but without NAV, the dealership has called a couple of times with offers to order a 2016 without the NAV. But the wait would be much longer and until now, no one knew what the 2016 T4R would have.

Here's what the dealer told me today:

The only significant change for 2016 is that the Entune is being upgraded from version 2.0 to 2.5, with more user applications to go with the weather, gas prices, Facebook, etc, it already has. The TRD Pro will be offered in White, Quicksand and Magnetic Grey, but no more flaming orange or black. So maybe that means the other T4Rs will be available in Quicksand (light brown/beige?). I'd buy a Lexus-like beige with brown interior if I could.

Here's the real clincher in my mind. They're only going to build and ship 350 T4Rs to the entire US market per month. They're focusing production on more popular models like the Highlander and Sienna. The dealer said they'd be getting far fewer T4Rs per dealer in 2016. How many T4Rs were imported in 2014? How many are projected to sell in 2015? Does this mean that a 2016 T4R is going to be harder to find and the price will be MSRP+ when they are available? Does the 4Runner go the way of the FJ Cruiser in a few years?:rip:

That sounds about right for numbers/proportions of T4R production if they are planning a new generation in 2017. The same thing happened with the 2009 model year of the 4th gens as they were gearing up for the 5th gens. The 4Runner has always been a lower volume vehicle compared to Toyota's other line-ups.

I didn't expect too much from the 2016 expect maybe one or two special changes to try and sell their remaining stock (i.e. 2009's "Urban Runner" trim package.)

As the government tightens down on fuel economy requirements the 4Runner will eventually suffer the same fate as the FJ.
 
Nothing is official until it's released through Toyota channels, Toyota pressroom has not given US markets any public information on the 2016 4Runner yet. The Canadian information is completely different than the US. I have heard no such restrictions on importing 4runner into the United States.
 
i'll hop in on the RUMINT bandwagon


I talked to the lead tech guy at the stealership today. He said that the 2016 models will have a 3.5L and an optional supercharger from factory. He was positive that the 4.0L was going the way of the dinosaur :(

Brace yourselves for a pussified version (not that they had any balls to begin with). After I mentioned the supercharger he tried selling me one for my 2015 LOL. Going from NA to FI on a truck without any aftermarket ECU mapping..... no thanks.
