Why you guys buy Toyotas is beyond me. Go buy those "powerhouses" you speak of and enjoy! Oh wait... you say you would if they had the reliability, durability and residual value of Toyota? Hey, Toyota has a vehicle that fits every single one of your needs and it's called a Land Cruiser. Don't want to pony up the $85K that is a fair value to get the performance and reliability? Would rather ***** and moan about why they don't make a POS with lots of power and efficiency and terrible reliability? Geez guys, when will you realize that to get what you all want (power, efficiency, reliability, comfort, lots of tech and off road ability) it's gonna cost a lot of money and there are only a few vehicles out there that qualify. I guess it's easier to sit back and whine about it though. Carry on.
Here's a link to a post I did awhile back that fits some of you to a "T." http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/182051-expectations.html
Life's too short. Buy what you want and quit whining. Next thing you know you will be complaining about your Starbucks cup being too small for your cup holder and blaming it on Toyota. Oh wait...
I get the argument that "you can't have it all" and "if you want it all, you have to pay to play" but I don't really think it applies here, personally. For what it's worth, a Land Cruiser is way too big for a lot of people - myself included. I assume you know that.
300hp V6s have been around for the last ten years, and guess who started that trend? Toyota, with the 2GR-FSE (granted it's a Lexus motor). Toyota has stood still while everyone else has quickly moved to lighter materials, more advanced transmissions and engines that are both more powerful and more efficient.
Quite frankly, there's no reason our 4Runners couldn't have a 6AT vs. a 5AT, at least. Is it the end of the world? No, but Jeep and others are now using 8ATs and getting much better gas mileage in the process.
The specs on this new engine are more worrisome to me because Toyota has a habit of letting engines sit on the shelf for a decade before they update them. Are we talking about a 2025 Tacoma with the same specs as a truck from 2005? Hope not...
To your point, reliability is more important to me than being the fastest guy at the drag strip which is relevant when? Never. It would just be nice to see Toyota being a leader in powertrain technology instead of at the back of the pack.
