2016 TRD PRO or 2016 Trail Premium?

They cannot void your ENTIRE warranty because of a modification. They might not cover things because of what might have theoretically happened but your whole warranty isn't void.

That's not what I was saying. The manfr CAN void your entire warranty based on certain scenarios. I worked for Honda years ago and we would run VIN checks on vehicles that were in for work and occasionally one would return with a voided warranty. For instance, a vehicle being involved in a wreck that totaled it out but it was rebuilt anyways and the resold, once Honda found out, warranty void.

Trail Premium is my choice. I replaced my wheels with the TRD which I picked them because they look good with my white color car.

Honestly, unless you really want the quicksand, I would get a TE, add Katzkins with heat and cooling (since the cooling will be more useful where you live) a boss/icon suspension and a decent set of AT tires and you could still come in under the cost of the TRDPro. Unless you really want the sunroof, then obviously the TEP is the choice.

Like you, for me it was a pretty rough choice. I *didn't* want a sunroof (I'm tall) but did want KDSS. Was going back and fourth until the local dealer called to say a TEP had just arrived in port and would be available in a few days.

I added bits to make it better than a Pro and could not be happier.

who cares about suspension? it's all about the heated side view mirrors with exterior blinker and puddle lights you get with the TEP!

In Colorado, heated side mirrors and seats sure are nice, in TX and Hawaii (OP) probably not so much... :flame:

All I got from our local Toyota was "it should be here around November". They didn't give my a VIN or anything specific to the T4R. I just put a deposit down. Would you be able to find out which one get allocated to Hawaii? I guess I reserved one vs ordered one.

It does get a chilly 61 degrees during winter months here, with a wind chill of 58 degrees.

get the trail premium, not sure why the TRD Pro isnt an upgrade. The TRD pro should be the TEP premium with limited amenities inside.

A Trail Premium w/KDSS -- those are hard to find, and you're in Hawaii? Good luck. It was much easier finding a Pro in my area, and they were supposedly hard to find as well.

Most TEP/KDSS guys will say you're a poser if you get a Pro,...the Pro guys will say the Pro is better. I would have loved to try out a TEP/KDSS -- I traded my '11 LE for the Pro and I'm happy. Both are very capable on and off road -- other than the front grill the differences are negligible.

Gotta run -- Gotta wash my truck for the second time today, Dick's is having a sale on flat brim caps and after that I'm getting some color added to my neck tattoo.

Go with your gut as previously mentioned. My gut was telling me order a 2016 Trail Premium with the KDSS.

TRD Pro was only attractive to me from the possible collectibility in the future.

I got the TEP as I really wanted the moon roof and KDSS. I did like a bunch of the aesthetics of the pro so I added that to my truck after-the-fact and could not be happier.

I just spent 18 days staying on my family's ranch on Kauai. Not one Pro on the island.

Tons of 5th Gens though, I was having a blast driving around my mother in laws 2002 Runner with 200k miles! Still runs like a top.

For 2015, we only got TRD PRO tundras and tacomas, no T4Rs. For 2016, servco is getting Tundras, Tacomas, and T4Rs.

Did you change suspension too? How much did it cost?

If you plan on lifting/leveling your truck higher than the what the Pro offers, buy a TE that way your not wasting your $$ pulling out the PRo suspension.

If you plan on keeping it stock, get the PRO.


Another thing to keep in mind in Hawaii is the recon law. IF you get the pro i don't believe you need to get recon since the truck is built that way straight from factory. If you buy the TE/SR5 and add a small lift you can probably get away driving around without recon but there's always a chance the po po will pull you over ... at least on Oahu. Recon law is stupid there.

PRO = stock = no voided warranty on suspension, transmission, or any other part that may have issues because of your aftermarket lift on a TE.
