2016 TRD PRO or 2016 Trail Premium?

Did the same. 2016 TEP. With all my mods I'm at $45,170 without ttl

Mods in sig. Wheels and skids not in yet. 45k is what pros go for here in SoCal.

I do not know where in SoCa you are, but if you passed me in that I would be rubber necking big time...looks awesome...

I am still hoping to get TRD Pro from NorCal dealer, but I agree it seems you have a better truck for same price. My reasoning this time around is that every 4x4 I've owned (well almost every one), I have gone bonkers adding stuff going way overboard like an addiction. And the older I get, and living at least 4 hour round trip from any wheeling, making it difficult to just go play on a whim's notice....I make my vehicles less roadworthy, ride worse, worse mpg, and never wheel them (well hardly)....so in getting TRD Pro I have the minor lift, rims, and AT tires (even if they are not so great), full warranty, no temptation to lift it. Because if I get a Trail, once I say I am gonna lift something I keep adding parts to the suspension because if you are gonna do it do it right right?? Then it just keeps flowing with bumpers, skids, winch etc etc....

I am hoping to get a TRD Pro, and leave it BONE STOCK...if I go trail riding it should be fine for most anything I would do, and will be WAY WAY better than a Jeep for long roadtrips. I will probably wheel more with a TRD Pro than I did with my Jeep Rubicon, because who wants to rattle, bounce, and go deaf for hours on the highway to get to the trails? With a TRD Pro I might actually enjoy roadtrips more and hit mild trails. The small lift and locker will make it go plenty of places, as I have seen on here guys with stock 4runners going all sorts of gnarly places. When the Nittos wear out, I will put on some better tires, maybe the new BFG ATs or Toyo ATs...and hope that I only fall for maybe some extra lights and sliders in the future...again I want to get something and keep it as stock as possible this time around. Looking forward to a 4runner, will probably feel like a caddy compared to using a Rubicon as a DD!!!
I just picked up my TRD Pro magnetic gray last weekend here in NorCal. Paid MSRP. I hear there are a couple around still waiting to be delivered to dealerships (modesto toyota, stevens creek toyota, and fremont toyota) not sure if they have deposits waiting for them already though.

I have a deposit on one of the Greys coming into that region..paperwork supposed to arrive next week for me to seal deal.

Hey guys. Brand new here. I just picked up the grey Pro from Modesto. It was held for a pending deal when we got there (to look at Tacomas or maybe a Trail) and we loved it. The guy trying to buy it walked so we closed the deal at MSRP. They said they have had it for 5 days, and as I was standing there finalizing everything someone called and wanted to come up from SoCal to pick it up.

I'll admit I am out of the circle here and had no idea it was so hard to find them. Just got lucky I guess. Wasn't expecting to even see a pro there much less buy one, but here we are. This is my first Toyota coming from a Jeep JKU so I'm excited to get it dirty!

Reading your post...

- You'll probably off-road 2-4 times a month, nothing too crazy.
- The price difference is about 2k.
- You are leaning toward the PRO because you like the look of it

Given the price difference and your first instinct, I would do the Pro. For nothing too crazy ...it is capable.

Other thing to consider is, yes you can get a non-Pro and do all the mods, when it comes time to trade/sell it, you most likely won't recover the mod money. A stock Pro will hold it's value, relative to a heavily modded one.

Go with your first instinct, lesson I have learned is the heart wins over the head or any spread-sheet.

Cheers

2017 Cement PRO

Recently placed a deposit on 17 PRO at a Norcal dealer.

I know it will be a long wait. :(

Will probably only make minimal changes to maintain resale. Who knows what 2018 might bring? Thinking sliders... brand unknown. Tires... KO2 vs Cooper?

I saved $9,000 over the going rate for a TRDPro in SoCal going with a Non Premium Trail with KDSS. Bought new wheels, tires, rack, TRDPro front grill and a few other cosmetic upgrades.

I still have a ton of money left over for a suspension upgrade when I'm ready. But right now I have the truck I love and I really only run easy trails around the LA area a once or twice a month. When I'm ready to wheel something more difficult I'll upgrade the suspension.

Anyway, if I would have bought the TRDPro for $45k, I'm sure I would have loved it and I probably would have left it stock for my uses and been happy. But with the trail I've got KDSS, money in my pocket for upgrades and I've had fun learning to mod it myself.

I am 100% in the same boat! I customize every damn thing! My Ford Raptor has aftermarket everything and ended up at SEMA. I think the TRDP could be a great everyday / offroad / overlanding vehicle where the money spent could be in a rooftop tent and things along that line. I'm tired of doing suspension work!

I think most of us recognize good upgrades when we see them, but dealers won't pay crap for them on a trade. Let's face it, many folks would criticize a TRDP mall runner, but would buy that used any day of the week over a personally modded and heavily off road used Trail! Thank God for mall runners!!!

Chalk me up as a Trail Prem > TRD Pro. Not only were there no Pros around here (or trails...) I was able to get a Trail straight from port. I'm not concerned about the different badges, not crazy about the TRD wheels, they don't come in red (yet) and the suspension can be had off ebay but since it doesn't have any lift, probably won't go that route.

The lack of moonroof or KDSS in the pro don't bother me, but the price is the big thing for me.

The basics, like sliders, lighting upgrades, tires, are going to have to happen to either one anyways.

I'm thrilled with my Barcelona Red Trail Premium. Picked it last Wednesday with 2 miles, took the first roadtrip this weekend, she'll be at over 1,000mi by the end of his week.

I treat my vehicles the same as I do my house. I don't paint my walls white because the next owner might not like grey. I don't refrain from putting a lift on because if I ever sell it the next owner might not want it or will want it for free.

My car my house my money my mods.

But if I ever do sell it and a private owner wants all those mods for free on a very well maintained TEP then he can go elsewhere. If they want one without mods that badly then they can go look elsewhere also...and pay less for one without them.

I see less Trails here than I do TRDP's to a ratio of 2:1.. That is I have seen TWO TRD Pro's and ONE TEP! :thumb:

On the flip side I see a crap load of Limited and SR5's

I chose both.

Wanted the OEM suspension upgrade, wanted TRD grill/valances/wheels, wanted KDSS, wanted sunroof.

Got it all:

2016 SuperWhite TRD Trail

Sup guys. I'm trying to decide between one of these 2. I've compared the 2 and so far the differences are KDSS, moonroof on the TEP, and wheels, suspension on the TRD PRO. I'll probably off-road 2-4 times a month, nothing too crazy. The price difference is about 2k. I'm leaning toward the PRO because I like the look of it, off-road capability for both are probably pretty similar. I searched this topic and found a little bit, but I want more opinions on which T4R would be the better purchase. I'm sure others have had to choose between these. So please chime in with some opinions and insights and why you chose 1 vs the other.
Thanks in advance

I have a TRD PRO on order, but it's not due till around November.
